CLASS HISTORY ‘‘Beyond the Horizon—Success. ’ This is the motto which we chose when we began our journey across the horizon toward our graduation in 56. Sponsors for our Freshman year were Mrs. PearlOlson and Mr. Claude Marsh, and as class officers we chose Brent Olson, President; Beverly Randall, Vice-President; Shirley Sageman, Secretary; and Emilie Henny, Treasurer. Green and White were chosen as our class colors and carnations as our flowers. Our next step across the horizon of high school was our Sophomore year, when under the guidance of Mr. Claude Marsh and Mr. Herbert Avey, we elected Valarian Kanaby to lead us as President with Marilyn Bowron, Vice-President; Marilyn Tetreau, Secretary; and Helen Wills, Treasurer. Our Junior year began the two busiest years of our journey. The social season began when sea horses and a giant anchor entered the gym and transformed it into Neptune's Kingdom for the annual J-Hop. We began the New Year with a magazine sale which added much to our funds for the com- pletion of our trip across the horizon. Our officers for this year were Owen Sommerfeld, President; Helen Wills, Vice-President; Loraine Balint, Secretary; and Sharon Wessels, Treasurer. In the spring we presented “A Date With Judy,” directed by Mrs. Alberta Schubel, a lively comedy composed of a family with a teen-age daughter. Our final event of the year was in May when we put on the second annual Junior-Senior Banquet for the graduating class. Our guides for the final lap of our journey were Owen Sommerfeld, President; Beverly Randall, Vice-President; Helen Wills, Secretary; and Sharon Wessels, Treasurer. Mr. Robert Barrett and Mrs. Alberta Schubel were our sponsors for both this year and our Junior year. We would like to express our appreciation for the time and help they have given us. The first event of the year was the Sadie Hawkins Dance which gave every girl a chance to take her favorite boy out. Next came the Senior Magazine Sale which supplemented our savings for the Senior Trip in the spring. “Mister Coed,” a comedy about a cowboy coming to a girls’ school in the East, was put on by the class in November under the direction of Mrs. Schubel. A ‘‘Christmas Dream” became reality at the annual Christmas Banquet and Ball. Larry Wilding presided over the program at the banquet while a cutter full of packages centered the gym floor for the dance afterwards. The social season of the year wound up with the Senior Prom in the Spring. On June 2 we left on our trip to tour Niagara Falls, New York City, and Washington, D.C. The final steps of our journey were taken at Commencement on the evening of June 13 when we received our diplomas. We have spent four wonderful years in Bad Axe High and although we bate to leave, we are all looking forward to going ‘‘Beyond the Horizon--to our Success.” Shirley Sageman
