Giving Us Roles To Play . . . THESE WEE ACTIVE VISIT TO CECEECM On the sixth of September, the students and citizens of Colchester hosted a visiting band from Colchester, England, not an ordi- nary band of assorted instruments, but one of widely-ranged accordians and percussion. The Colchester Accordian Orchestra, ac- knowledged to be one of the finest in Great Britain and among the top of such orchestras on the continent of Europe, performed in a concert held September 10 at the Bacon Academy gymnasium. To a standing ovation by the public, the band played compositions especially composed for accordian groups, classical pieces, and Broadway tunes. The Westchester Congregational Church prepared and served a New England supper to the weary guests who returned one even- ing from Mystic Sea Port, the Mystic Aquar- ium, and the town of Essex. The orchestra members enriched the lives of those they came in contact with while they were here, demonstrating their won- derful customs and personalities. After ex- tending a public invitation to the Bacon Academy Band, the group left to visit Col- chester, Vermont.

Bacon gets a lift! Why the addition of an elevator? A Feder- al law passed in 1973 requires all public buildings to be accessible to the handi- capped. The project cost between $90,000 and $100,000 and will be paid for by a Feder- al grant. Mr. Warren commented that only the handicapped persons or those with tem- porary disabilities such as a broken leg are able to use the elevator. Bacon should ex- pect some further renovations to improve safety and to make the facility more accessi- ble to the handicapped, such as a ramp to the stage and wider stalls in the lavs.
