As we leave Bacon Academy as alumni this year, I'd like to talk about our four years at Bacon, in the hope that memories of friends and times shared will once again travel through your minds. Let me take you back to 1975-76 and our Freshman year at Bacon. A new environment, meeting again with classmates who somehow had blended into the woodwork in the past, and exploring new surroundings. Meeting lor the first time those staff members that you'd only heard rumors about in Central. A faculty whose reputation was enough to scare anyone, but who became some of the nicest friends you'd ever had when you finally got to know them. As quickly as our Freshman year ended, our Sophomore year was upon us. As Sophomores we brought vengeance to the new Freshmen, for we were able to give to them what we received as Freshmen. Our Sophomore year was basically a brain- storming one; the class officials attempted a fruitless battle to try to organize an activity that the Juniors and Seniors hadn t already claimed — some fund raiser that would promote a prom in our lunior year. A couple of highlights of our Sophomore experiences were receiving our class rings and gelling driver's licenses. These two material symbols of maturing High School students were noted by many. Hey, did you hear who's wearing whose ring? and Did you see somebody's new car? were definitely popular topics of conversation among Sophomores. Sophomores began to experience the anxiety of becoming upperclassmen and soon our dreams were fulfilled when the following September we found ourselves juniors. As luniors we anxiously awaited the junior Prom and all of the various proceedings leading to it. The printing of tickets. hiring of a band, and searching for a suitable location paid off. May 5th, at the Sheraton in Norwich, was indeed a memoralsle evening. Remember how your date’s roast beef almost walked off the plate, and how you wished those slow dances would last for hours? These are times we'll never forget. As the month of May progressed and temperatures rose we all began to get spring fever. Our minds were not on school work but on outside activities and having fun. As the days got sunnier and hotter it was amazing how much money those doctors and dentists made from Bacon students. We finally made it through our junior year, and started to act like the mature upperclassmen we were. All of die pranks of silly Seniors, like truck tires on the roof and milk crate walls across the hall, and of course, the outhouse which served as the vice-principal's office on the front steps will always be rememljered. Who were these masked people of the night? Yes, we've worked hard as a class to obtain those goals for which we strived. Our class is not big in numjjer but in strengths. Our musicians, athletes, dramatists, leaders and pranksters have left their mark on Bacon Academy and will not easily be forgotten. As Longfellow stated, 'Lives of great men all remind us we can make our lives sublime, and departing leave behind us footprints in the sands of time'.
