You guided us skillfully through those years filled with many problems and disappointments, and led our class to its ultimate success. You have become a true friend, as well as a class advisor. As a small token of our appreci- ation, we, the class of 1957, dedicate our year book to you. Mrs. Anne McDonald IVY ODE This creeping ivy clings To the walls. As the tender stalk, like a child’s muscles, Grows and expands. We, too, shall grow like this ivy, Expanding our knowledge and experience, Until each of us finds His place in the world. Grow on,ivy, and May we, too, continue our ascent Ever upward. Suzanne Cutler Directed By... THE FACULTY CAROLYN ANDREWS B. S. Bryant College; Business Education WALLACE CASE B. Bob Von Edwins Most Pep Wendy Clark, Jack Weinkoff WE PREDICT Time: June, 1978. Place: Office of the principal in the new 50 room Bacon Academy building. Occasion: The 175th anniversary of the founding of Bacon Academy. Sue: Thanks for the guided tour of the new building, Stan. I recall that even way back in Mr. Case’s Trigonometry class you were determined to become an engineer. Congrat- ulations to you and your firm, the Stanley Romanewicz Con- struction Associates, for this very fine new Bacon Academy Building. Stan: Thanks, Sue. Little did you think way back in Mr. Mager's Problems and History Classes that you would now be the chief United States delegate to the United Nations. We’re a little early for the alumni banquet, so let us sit down here for awhile. Stan: You have many surprises in store for you tonight. Sue! Here is an advance copy of this week’s Life magazine with a feature story entitled, The Best of Bacon—the class of ’57”. Sue: Look, Stan! Here's the class role call and it's headed with the words, EVERY MEMBER — A CELEBRITY ”. Let’s read it now. Stan: Evelyn Misovich is the current box-office rage. She’s this year’s most popular actress. Sue: How nice! Here’s Roland Trailor, whose uranium mines have made him the wealthiest man in the world. Just think — it all started back in Mr. Kuligowski’s Physics class. Stan: And look here’s Tommy Harrington, whose experience in managing convalescent homes has resulted in his recent appointment to the new cabinet post, the Department of the Aged and Infirm. Here’s our contribution to the Navy. John Kwasniewski is the admiral in charge of the Medi- teranean fleet. Sue: Listen to this! The Wendy Clark Beauty Products are now the top selling beauty preparations in the nation. They have even been endorsed by Anne Arnold, the world's fore- most model, who has recently bought the Harry Conover School for models. Stan: I knew Natalie Waite would achieve her ambition. She is now the first woman president of T.W.A. Six months of every year Nat lives in Paris, and certainly makes use of the French Miss Spirou taught her. Margaret Porter and her husband, the world famous caterers, also run the food concessions on all T.W.A. planes. Sue: And here’s that great philanthropist, William Harry Petersen. His fortune was made in scrap metal, but he devotes both his time and his money to maintain the famous William Harry Petersen Home for the Handicapped. Do you remember how efficient a typist Bill was in Miss Steven’s class? It says here that Bill now teaches typing at the home. Stan : Here’s Ray Kaszczynec, the grocery store tycoon, who owns and operates the Oriental Cash and Carry Chain of Markets in Asia, modeled after our own First National Stores. Ray Kendzior is the new president of Pratt and Whitney. Imagine—from engineer to president in fifteen years. Sue: There’s no end to this wonderful fairy tale! The new owner of the Conrad Hilton Chain of Hotels, Jack Wein- coff, is being sued by the federal government for violating the antitrust laws. Nancy Taylor, who is rumored to be the next Attorney General, is handling the government’s case. Stan: We have our successes in the sports world, too. Judy Stodolski, the former stock car racing champion, is now the international promotor of the sport. Judy has recently es- tablished a $5000 scholarship fund at Bacon Academy in honor and in gratitude to Mr. Noel Coletti, the man who started her on her fabulous career. Warren Rogers is on another of his famouse safaris into darkest Africa. Sue: I’m speechless! Marie Begun has just won four gold medals at the Olympics held in Lower Slabovia, and Art Bray, captain of the Colchester Cannonballs, is the guiding light of the top basketball team in the United States. There’s no doubt about it, Stan, Mr. Cipriani was right when he said, It pays to be a winner. Stan: That’s right, and here’s another winner. This year’s Mrs. America is Mrs. Robert Stula, our own Loretta Savitski, who won the cooking contest with one of Mrs. McDonald’s famous recipes. Sue: I can’t believe this! Lawrence Webster, the celebrated author, has collaborated with that great humanitarian, Nancy Stella Vechinsky, to write the best-seller, I Was a Spy for the F.B.I.”, the true story of Nancy’s career. The dedication reads To our Senior English teacher and our inspiration, Mrs. George Andrews”. Stan : That’s one book I’ve got to read! In the entertainment field we have four famous names. Bob Von Edwins reached his goal. He is the master of ceremonies on Celebrity Time” every Sunday night. Bob’s glib tongue and ad-lib ability date back to Miss Knowlton’s English class. Fern Markoff and her all-boy orchestra are featured on this top-rated show. Sue: Well that’s no surprise! We even have two famous singers in our class—so famous that their countless fan clubs even have slogans. Stan: Slogans? Sue: Yes Stan, and here they are: Screech with Beach and Go Berserk with Joni Berk”. Stan: Sue, I bet you didn’t even notice who took all these pictures for Life. It’s our own Barbara Knight. Sue: That follows. It was back in eighth grade that Bar- bara’s career as a photographer started. On our State Cap- itol visit her skill in photography almost resulted in the governor being blown to bits. Stan: Really? Last but not least on the roll call is Laura Young, the silver-tongued orator who is drawing over-sized audiences wherever she appears. She is often called the Female Billy Graham”. Sue: What a magnificent roll call! Is Mr. Damarjian going to be with us tonight? Stan: He’s the guest of honor. Sue: Good, I had hoped we would have the pleasure of seeing him once again. Stan: Sue, this has been very pleasant, but it’s now 7:30, the scheduled time for the banquet. Sue: Alright, Stan, let’s go . . . 18 WE HEREBY DECLARE...
