SPORTS ROUND-UP BASEBALL Returning back for another season are: short stop Joe Falbowski, utility man Walt Lesnewsky, outfielders Sal- vatore Guarnaccia and Bill Miles and catcher Harold Gutterman. Joe Falbowski sported one of his worst years in '54 but is expected to swing a heavy bat for the team of '55 coached by Wallace Case. Harold Gut- terman, who batted conservatively, is also expected to swing a heavy bat for the team with Sal Guarnaccia, Bill Miles and Walt Lesnewsky pitching in their well needed share. Lots of luck to the team in 1955. SOCCER The Fall of '54 saw Coach James McPhee and his. coaching soccer will no doubt flourish at the Academy. men utilizing their big toes. This is Coach McPhee's first year at Bacon and has already done a great job handling his team. We know that under his careful Those graduating from the soccer squad are Joe Falbow- ski, Charles Friedman and Julian josypenko. BASKETBALL December 4th witnessed the Bacon Bobcats opening their '54, '55 basketball season under the watchful eye of Coach Wallace Case. This is the first team to play in the new gymnasium which was finished in the fall of '54. The boys, lacking height and experience, fought down to the wire but to no avail. Without doubt, statis- ticnlly, Bacon has accomplished the feat of delivering to the town and to the school one of the worst records, but this team has displayed tremendous hustle and will to win. Yes, games were lost but we made them earn their victory, not by scoring but by exhibiting pure fighting and guts. We know that Coach Case will hand this town and Academy a championship team so let's get behind him and make his job that much easier. GIRLS' SPORTS The year 1954-1955 saw also the program of intra- mural sports at the new gymnasium. Girls sports, under Miss Paskerian, is showing steady improvement and will no doubt spread and grow into a well rounded athletic program for our fairer sex. LAST YEAR MEN Last year men: joe Falbowski-4 years soccer . . . 5 years baseball . . . 4 years basketball. Joe had an ex- tremely good batting and performance year in 1953. He was one of the key figures in the backcourt on the '53, '54 basketball team and shows great promise with his steel toe and impregnable skull on the soccer field. Harold Gutterman-2 years soccer . . . 3 years baseball . . . 4 years basketball. Harold had a very modest year in 1954 for the baseball team hitting better than aver- age and when it counted with an impressive defensive game behind the batter's box. He likes to win and will light for that victory. Charlet Friedman-2 years soccer . . . 4 years basketball. He's a good hustler and team- mate. He plays for the club and never lets personal aims interfere with the outcome of the game. Salvatore Guar- nacciu-2 years baseball . . . 2 years basketball A real strong boy with terrific fight. He hits a mean ball and handles himself on any field of play. Bill Mile:-3 years baseball . . . 1 year soccer. A strong toe for soccer and an even stronger will to win. A good left hand sticker and a strong throwing arm. His main ambi- tion is to be a winning chucker for the baseball team. Walt Lemewrky - 2 years baseball . . . 1 year basket- ball. A good sport and good competitor. When given the chance he'll usually come through for the team. julian jorypenko-3 years soccer. A boy with a ter- rific amount of speed and a strong and accurate toe. He's one who can really teach anyone a lot of his game, soccer. ir. x in fyzaeam' 1 3 ... I .6 'M ,Fizz-nl V, ,H Q ,., Q.
