This year. Monday. sixth period. President Sophie Slattery gathered her handy helpinates for a lull session ol, not only knitting. htit also crocheting. em- hroidering and weaving. Of course, there was a hit oi, chatter interspersed just to pass the time. SCIENCE CLUB The Science Cluh has heen organized for live years under Mr. Grillitlfs sponsorship. The cluh does work supplementary to that which is taken up in class and also a few tangent experiments that make the club activities more interesting. Its sole purpose might he stated as starting students thinltf ing along scientilic lines. This year George Klein acted as president and Eleanor Bern' henneck as secretary-treasurer. PCDSTER CLUB Plays may come and plays may go. hut never without posters to advertise the fact. Mrs. Keenatfs Poster Cluh. presided over hy Richard Davis, turned out some line specimens ol' poster art this vear. especially in the contest lor the annual ,Xmerican Legion Hall. After an absence of several years, a printed school paper reappeared in Babylon High. The new offering, Ptmlhw' Tales, a monthly newspaper, was remarkably successful. Publication wasn't always easy. for the venture was a large financial undertaking: but thanks to an able business stall and lots ol' hard work by the whole club, nine issues were published. Much credit goes to Marion Lott, the editor-in-chief, and to Miss Fredendall, the consultant. Besides the paper, the club sponsored two dances-a Defy-Bad-Luck Dance on a Friday. the thirteenth. and a Double-Dozen Dance. both of which were highly successful. LIBRARY CLUB Our Library Club is really a useful school instrument. At the meetings. held once a week. methods of procedure in the library, location and arrangement of books, the check- ing of books. the location of types of material are studied. Because much time is spent in working under Miss Dixson's direction. no club officers are needed. Each member is in full charge of the desk for at least two periods a week. About twice a year activities are planned. This year the group saw Best Foot Forward. and had a spring party. STUDENT CQUNCIL The Student Council of '42 deserves much credit for the splendid work which it did this year. XVith Bob Hugge as president. and Mr. Oyer as supervisor, the group sponsored a Burro Ball game, donating the proceeds to the Red Cross, and settled many probl lems. among them, noon-dancing. DGMECON CLUB With Red Cross sewing, the May style show. teas. Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets. this club managed to keep busy throughout the year. Miss Foote was the Taculty adviser, and the ofhcers were as fol- lows: Pres.. E. VVagnerg V.l7., Ruby XVells: Sec.. I. Tichansky: Treas.. lean Broglie. COMMERCIAL CLUB The girls of the Commercial Club, tliq rected by Miss Henze, did a line job ol' at- tending to all secretarial work around school. Not overlooking the All work and no playi' theory, they ttirned the work into enjoyable tasks. We agree with their motto. There's nothing like a pleasant. elli- cient secretary. Tl-TE WATCH VVhether it was cold or hot, stormy or clear. these boys kept watch for aerial aetivf ity over Babylon ever since Pearl llarbor. During free periods they took turns climb- ing the ladder into the tower and out onto the roof. VVe hope their purpose will soon be fulfilled. wx- H 'H 'iiap-P'g5 5? ,,:',g, f geff iq , , -Q IQ N G5 ff- .ig ffifiagfi ,g.g,,sa .129 is 9 , 1 wwf , , ,MX ',t::F:'22'?f 1,wfm f:5qE-ffgiipf:ZA L f Q ' A -v rl .4 MA ,, ' ,. ,. 575 M 105 Q Q ' 33 Q 9: 3 Y- .,,w'a 'g X 5 ' 39 ,R Q 5 .nf aff? 31. ibgs 1 'QfQ13a' ag S, K K f fl .
