CLASS HISTORY The year was 1957, thetime, 8:30 A. M., the place, B. F. Grady High School. This was the setting when we, a group of excited freshmen, first entered high school. We discovered that Mrs. Alice Davis and Mr. Alton Whaley would be our home room teachers. We immediately elected the following class officers: Presidents, Faye Harper and Jackie Miller; Vice-Presidents, David Grigg and Eleanor Herring; Secretaries, Nell Howard and Sandra Herring; Treas- urers, Kenny Page and Betty Hardy; Reporters, Marlene Taylor and Linda Jones. We found that in high school there were numerous activities to occupy our time, such as: club meetings, dances to attend, homework to prepare, and, of course, basketball games. Several of us made the varsity team and we were very proud of that. Many of us attended our first banquet that year. With all of these activities our freshman year slipped by and we were soon sophomores. The newness of being in high school had worn off and we were now looking forward to becoming seniors. We elected our class officers under the supervision of our home room teachers, Mrs. Edna Ward and Mr. Larry Stewart. They were: Presidents, Nell Howard and David Grigg; Vice- Presidents, Billy Jones and Sandra Herring; Secretaries, Lu Jean Harper and Judi Kornegay; Treasurers, Hope Welch and Alice Dail; Reporters, Peggy Williams, Jackie Miller, and Linda Jones; Parliamentarians, Betty Lou Sanderson and Carolyn Grady. Our junior year started with a bang by breaking the school records for selling magazines. The next big thing we did was to select our class rings. After much debating, we decided on a red set with a black G embedded in it. When our rings finally came, we were as proud as peacocks . Hessie of the Hills was a big hit. Directed by Mr. Edgar Wells, with a wonderful cast, it was very successful. Everyone enjoyed helping with it and we just hoped our senior play would turn out as well. The highlight of the year was our Junior-Senior Banquet held at the Golds- boro Hotel. There was a lot of work and lots of fun. The theme of our ban- quet was Junior-Senior Shangrila . Our senior year came so quickly, we could hardly grasp the idea. Our sponsors, Miss Mary Anna Grady and Mr. Edgar Wells, were a g reat help to us. The officers of our class are: President, Judi Kornegay; Vice-President, Gail Grady; Secretary, Janice Holt; Treasurers, Alice Smith and Elsie Outlaw; Reporter, Peggy Williams; and Devotional Chairman, Nell Howard. White caps and gowns have been selected for graduation. Our invitations and calling cards have been ordered. Our money-making projects have been varied and we are sure that by the end of the year we will be able to take our long awaited Washington-New York trip. We are all looking forward eagerly to our graduation. This will be a happy and an important event in our lives. It will also be sad as we realize that we are actually finishing high school. We will know that things will be much different then and we will have to plan and make a place in life for ourselves. Faye Harper-Historian 10
