We realized that there was a big difference between high school and grammar school. With Miss Margaret Smith, Miss Thelma Dilday, and Mr. Morton Sills, as our guides, we soon found our places among other high school students. Many of us became members of theF.H. A. and F. F. A. We also experienced our first banquets. With Leland Harper and Jessie Williams as our class leaders the year- soon passed. When we entered school our sophomore year, we found that Mary Susan Barwick and Ralph Gene Dotson were no longer with us. Miss Grady and Mrs. Swain were our home- room teachers. Geraldine Williams and Paul Tyndall were our class presidents. Eight sophomores joined the Beta Club, They were; Geraldine Williams, Ada Frances Scott, Patricia Quinn, Inez Grady, Charlotte Outlaw, Jessie Williams, Michael Aldridge, and Al- bert Smith. This year Peggy Joyce Sutton came from LaGrange. She has been with us on our journey through high school. Finally, we were Juniors. We noticed that a few of our classmates were not with us, but we were happy to see that we had a new member, Ronald Earl Quinn. We elected the following class officers: President, Leland Harper; Vice President, Patricia Quinn; Sec- retary, Charlotte Outlaw; Treasurer, Paul Tyndall; and Reporter, Geraldine Williams. One of the first highlights of the year was picking our class ring. After much debating, we chose a ring with a black set. The next big thing was the magazine selling contest. We divided into two sides. Patricia Quinn was captain of one side and Leland Harper, the other. Patricia ' s side won and was honored by a barbecued chicken supper in the school cafeteria. With the help of Mr s. Swain and Mrs. Davis, our wonderful advisors, our Junior Play, Hob- gobblin House, was a success. At Christmas the class enjoyed a party at Maxwell ' s Mill, This was given by a few members of the class. After Christmas we started planning one of the main highlights of the year- -the Junior- Senior Banquet. We used the theme , “Starlight” , using blue and silver decorations . It was given in Hotel Goldsboro on March 26, 1954. Again it was time for parties, so the winning side in the magazine contest gave the losing side a hamburger supper at the Neuse Cliffs. No one got sick, even though the boys did cook the hamburgers. Geraldine Williams, Michael Aldridge, and Patricia Quinn were members of the Junior class who attended the Beta Club convention in Asheville. And so it was, our Junior year had happily and swiftly passed. At last! We have the envied rank. Seniors I Again we have a new classmate. He is Jimmie Lee Honeycutt from Deep Run. The class has also decreased. We have a class of forty-three. Our class officers are: President, Leland Harper; Vice President, Michael Aldridge; Secretary, Patricia Quinn; Treasurer, Paul Tyndall; and Reporter, Geraldine Williams. We are happy to have Mr. Ralph Gurley and Mr. Edgar Wells as our guides. We will never forget the tobacco tyings that we had in the gym and at Howard Walker ' s. We were all one big happy family working together for one thing --money for our Washington -New York trip, which is to be taken May 19. We decided to sponsor a square dance every other Wednesday night in the gymnasium with music by the Rhythm 4 plus 1, We have also sponsored turkey shooting matches. Our queen for the Harvest Festival was Geraldine William.s, who was crowned Miss B. F. Grady. Although our king, Jimmie Lee Honeycutt wasn ' t crowned, the Seniors are proud of his good sportsmanship and work. We have already ordered our calling cards, caps and gowns, and our invitations. We have begun to use the lights at night to work on our Annual, The Overflow , We hope to have it finished by January 20, We still have many things to look forward to; Our Senior Play, the Junior-Senior Ban- quet, our Baccalaureate Sermon, and then, the cl imax and end of our high school days. Graduation. We will walk down the aisle the last time as high school students. Some of us may be sad over leaving dear ole ' B, F. Grady, but with the help and knowledge we have gained from our faculty, we must face the future bravely. Witnesses: Leland Harper Carolyn Smith, Testatrix Albert Smith Paul Tyndall Charlotte Outlaw Kenneth Kennedy CIUS PKOPHin I was walking through the woods today, when I came upon a funny little machine, I decided to examine it closely. It was made up of several sets of dials and levers. They were labeled past, present, and future. The future seemed more exciting, so I pulled the future lever. I began to whirl. When I stopped, I was seated in a bright orange Ford equipped with self- steering and de- veloped by the great Ford designer, Kenneth Davenport, and his assistant, Kenneth Kennedy. I stepped out of my car and walked down the street to the largest Chevrolet dealers in Sarecta, Lewis Westbrook and Howard Walker. They showed me their latest model and explained that it would go 160 m. p, h. A fox ran through the back door and out the front door, for he was chased by a hundred fox hounds and their owner, Rommie Hill. (He is the same old Rommie Oneal.) I decided to go have my tooth filled. I recognized the dentist. He was Albert Smith. I sat down to wait. In the room there was an old lady and gentlemen and their eight children. After introducing myself, they exclaimed that they were the former Charlotte Outlaw and Kenneth Du- pree, my old classmates. Afterwards, I rode over to the Duplin General Hospital, where Peggy Joyce Sutton was a nurse. Inez Grady has just completed the interior decoration of the nurses ' home. For extra money, Inez was helping Rachel Hardy teach Bop to the high school students. To complete my trip I went over to the city of Beulaville. A plane was landing at the city airport. After landing , Carolyn Smith, the famous model, was helped off the runway by air stew- ardess, Alice Jean Hussey. Carolyn was going to the city high school to give some helpful hints to Shirley Smith ' s home economics class. I rode over to the school with Carolyn; we passed Beulaville ' s new Art School directed by Mollie Faye Davis. As I passed the third grade of the High School, I heard a scream. One of the students had handed their teacher , Patricia Quinn, a green snake. The student was Roger O ' Quinn ' s oldest son, who was striving to be an auctioneer like his daddy. Patricia told me that Geraldine Williams was to be married to one of her old Beulaville beaux the coming week end, and Willie Ray Summerlin was to marry them. She also .said that Paul Tyndall was teaching chemistry and still a batchelor. Michael Aldridge, the city ' s only veterinarian, had been called to the farms of Earl Jones and John Ivey Summerlin. Delano Tyndall and Ronald Earl Quinn were getting a hair-cut and shave. They explained thattherehad been a called meeting of the school board at B. F. Grady. The purpose was to de- cide whether to keep Julia Miller as the girls ' basketball coach. Raymond Holland was working as foreman on the Albertson estate near Beulaville. Bertha Kay Smith was living in a neat brick house on the out- skirts of Beulaville. I stopped in Potter s Hill where Shelby Jean Williams was running a sewing shop for citizens of that city. She informed me that Hazel Williams was leaving for China that day. She was going to do missionary work there. Grace Walker was having her hair set for the opening of her tourist cabins at Cabin, North Carolina. Lovey Kelly was doing a fine job on Grace ' s hair and had several other customers waiting. One was Marie Jones, She was as attractive as ever. I gathered from the gossip that Janice Sutton was a private secretary at DuPont. Shelby Jean Jones was down in Mobile , Alabama working as a telephone operator. Lucille Walker passed driving a new 1965 Ford. Withher, were her husband and two children. Ada Frances Rivenbark and her family were still living at Mt. Olive, On the way back to my car , I bumped into my old friend , Verona William s , She had been doing telephone work in Virginia, She was dragging a little man along behind her. She whispered happily that he was her husband. Verona said Lila Mae Outlaw was in Rhode Island working as a secretary. Leland Harper is now head chemist in the DuPont plant at Albertson.
