Fifty-two ]unioR - senioR ’71 Our 1971 Junior-Senior was adorned by hanging oriental lanterns, colorful red and yellow walls with dragon and Buddha murals which transformed everyone into The Magic Land of Myths. The red tables were accented with black runners and centerpieces of Ming trees and flower arrangements. Honored as king and queen were Steve McLawhorn and Jeanne Turnage. Everyone enjoyed the music which was played by the Emphatics. This year ' s Ayden High School Junior-Senior was truly a tremendous success. Fifty- four One victory plus one dance equals one successful homecoming. The AHS foot- ball team defeat over Louisburg was surpassed only by Joe Padley and company, Medusa. The signs of the Zodiac were illuminated by ultraviolet lights illustrating the theme, Aquarius. No one specific queen was chosen; Ayden High instead was represented by a friendship court of ten girls. The AHS 1970-1971 Homecoming was a lasting tribute to the good times spent at Ayden High. What more appropriate description of the hopes and dreams of the 1970-71 Wheel staff is this? Through this annual we have tried to make the last year of Ayden High School live on. We realize Ayden is at the end of the road but it is looking toward new and brighter horizons. It has truly been a rewarding experience to serve as the editor of Ayden Whee l. Consequently, I gained new knowledge and especially, I gained new friends. The staff was late in getting organized, but because of their hard work and determination the annual was completed. Jimmy Robinson did a fantastic job of covering events with his camera. Much gratitude goes to my business manager. Sue Gaskins, for her financial labor. I especially want to thank Julia Mac Edwards, my assistant editor, for her unselfish help and continuous understanding. I must also express my thanks to my advisors, Mrs. Little and Mrs. Smith, who gave me confidence and spirit to drive onward and to my parents for their understanding, whenever I needed it. The last must shut the door, but these doors will never close out the memories of Ayden High School. Louise Mumford Editor— 19 71 Wheel One Hundred 9
