We began as an enthusiastic group; we had many new ideas and deep- rooted aspirations. Our group was determined to make the 1965 WHEEL the best ever. mination, and every change we made was intended to be an improvement. I am not sure we have reached our goal; I am in no position to compare this annual with past editions of the WHEEL. However, I am sure of one thing: many hours of hard work have been put into this volume. We should like to feel that this time has not been wasted. How well we have succeeded in our attempts will be measured by you, the student body of Ayden High School. Our main objective in designing this annual was to produce an accurate picture of Ayden High School from August, 1964 to May, 1965. It has been a mem- orable year we, the students, look back on it with a mixture of emotions. We have shared many exper- iences together and will undoubtedly want to re mem - berthese in future years. The WHEEL serves to preserve these memories. It was only through the combined efforts of a large number of people that this book has been pub- lished. Many individuals have made valuable cont- ributions in compiling it. 1, in serving as editor, could not have asked for more cooperation than I have received. I would like to recognize some of those who are responsible for this volume. First of all I would like to express my deepest appreciation to Mr. Doug M i t c h e 1 1. His efforts as advisor to the annual staff have been invaluable. He deserves the credit for many of the ideas and much of the labor represented herein. Thanks go to Buster Miller, our photographer, who has spent many hours taking pictures for this year ' s WHEEL. I would also like to recognize the assistance of Mr. Rudy Robinson, whose expert photography highlights many of our pages. Deep gratitude for a job well done goes to Gail Stokes, Business Manager, to Janet Edwards, Copy Editor, and to all of the membersof the staff. Margaret Miller, Cathy Respess, Judy Stillman, Johnny Buck, Martie Sumrell, Grey Davenport, Kaye Williams, and Billy Stokes have given their time and efforts to die yearbook production. Though not a staff member, Elaine Harris has been of valuable assistance to us. These, then, are the recorders of this past year ' s history of Ayden High School. These people should receive most of the credit for this annual, however, I would like to thank the entire student body for your cooperation and for the privilege of working with you. It has been an invaluable experience. Joel McLawhom J
