FOR REFERENCE Do Not Take From This Room 1967 governor Vol. VJ Charles M. Ay cock High School Pikeville, North Carolina Co-Sditors Beverly Perkins Beverly Kirby ' ‘?or Everything Zkere Js a Season, and “These are the young years, the fruitful years when time means only the day after tomorrow. These are the years of wistful-eyed beings with tender dreams, but youth is brutal as well as tender, and youth is reality as well as a dream. A flower blooms and fades and blows away--and blooms again, according to the season; and in like man¬ ner youth exists from spring to spring, for to everything there is a season. Zable of Contents 1. DONALD JONES Principal Our Mniiuista Dear Seniors: It is with a great deal of pleasure that I have the honor of bidding you your final farewell from Charles B. Aycock High School. It is also with a great deal of regret that I do so because your presence at Charles B. Aycock will now become part of its history and the association with you will not be as it has been in the past. Many times you have expressed a desire to reach this rung in your educational ladder, but now that it has arrived, you know you are not only graduating from a school but into a school; one that will teach you for the remainder of your life. The name of your future school is Society and is also one in which you will become an intimate part. As you venture down the road of your various vocations and occupations, I hope you will produce to your greatest potential and practice the training you have been exposed to in the past. Set your goals as high as the highest stars in the heavens and pur¬ sue each to the greatest extent of your capabilities. R. Donald Jones W. EARL WATSON Assistant Principal CHARLES B. AYCOCK ADVISORY COUNCIL Mrs. J. W. Rose; Mr. Hardy Talton, Chairman; Mr. H. B. Bradshaw; Mr. Otto Hicks; Mr. John Lee Smith Hon and Personnel Mrs. Elizabeth O ' Berry joined our staff this year as guidance counselor. She worked diligently in solving problems, finding employment, and aiding the seniors in selecting colleges. Mrs. Annette Sasser was a great asset to the students as well as faculty and served our school well as secretary. Mrs. Iris Thome, secretary, was ef¬ ficient in her work, but she also brightened our day with her pleasant smile and voice. R. L. BOYKIN History, Sociology Economics; Social Studies, Dept. Members of the 1967 GOVERNOR Staff pause from the daily routine of life to enjoy the Cliffs of the Neuse State Park. From the crest of the ninety-foot cliffs, one can view the spectacular display of nature’s works. Peace, contentment, and hope for mankind are seen in the placid, ever-wander¬ ing waters of the Neuse. 9 Mr. Robert Craft’s three years at Ay- cock have been characterized by dedicated and enthusiastic teaching. As band and choral director, he has devoted many after-school hours to practice and re¬ hearsal, giving freely of his time and energy, to make our Music Department outstanding in this area. His positive, friendly encouragement has been greatly appreciated by the stu¬ dents who have worked with him. We are proud to dedicate the 1967 edition of THE GOVERNOR to Mr. Robert W. Craft.
