We hope that through this book, we have portrayed a span of these path- ways to the future upon which each of us travels. Just as some roads are unpaved, so are some pathways to success unpaved. However, if the goal is kept in view, all difficulties can be sur- mounted. We are proud of our faculty who are the guideposts along our pathways through high school. Without them our trek would be futile. With all these things in mind, we present to you the 1965-66 GOVERNOR. 2 Departments and Clubs 62 Activities 9 Administration 4 Faculty 6-7 Contents Classes 11 3 Our New Principal DONALD R, JONES It has been a genuine pleasure for me to be as- sociated with Charles B. The average spectator may see a cheerleader as a swish of a blue and white pom-pom or a loud hoarse voice growing louder and more hoarse with each suc- ceeding yell, all this is true, but there is more. The Cheer- leading squad is a group of girls whose job it is to instill school spirit at pep rallies, bonfires, and games. They must remain through victory or defeat, through rain and cold to urge their team to do its best no matter the situation. They share both pride in winning and sorrow in losing, they can smile when the team needs it the most. Waiters and waitresses entertain at the Junior-Senior Prom. The Juniors chose them by popular vote. Jo Mitchell and Jimmy Davis were chosen Queen and King of the Junior-Senior Prom. Richard Wynn and James Horne work hard on the Sloop John B. 89 Memoriam JIMMY EARL JONES The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want; He maketh me to lie down in green pasmres; He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the Paths of righteousness for his name ' s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the Shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou Art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort Me. Thou preparest a table before me in the Presence of mine enemies; thou anointest my Head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all The days of my life; and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever. 23rd Psalm King James Version 90 Dramacons Present Spring Festival The Spring Festival was presented to the entire student body and par- ents on May 31st, This is an an- nual affair each year for the Dramacons. It is usually the high- light of the year and a portion of the final exam. Judy thought she had found the ghost. Mrs. Green presents Drama awards to senior members, 91 Dramacons En Vicki is convinced that her house-mother, Faye Lane, will believe anything. We really pulled the wool over her eyes. Cheryl Langley, Faye Scott, Vickie Best, and Jo Mitchell are Saved By the Belle T John Britt’s Combo was the featured act between the acts of Saved By. the Belle. They almost stole the show! Now, just what is this? Vicki convinces Faye that Steve has the wrong suitcase. 92 jy Acting Steve Perkins, Marty Bunn, Faye Lane, Bonnie Head, Faye Scott, Debbie Forehand. The Dramacons enjoyed their Christmas Party at Del Monty ' s. They exchanged presents (gag that is). The bus that was given Judy Pope was for a rescue pur- pose. Mrs. Green is still trying to crank hers, but hasn’t been successful. We doubt that she depends on the transportation given to her by Faye Lane. There is nothing like a curtain call for the Dramacons. How dare you insult my daughter. Steve especially enjoys it. Debbie influences Steve to marry her French daughter, Marie. 93 The Music Department Contributes . . . Mr, Craft has spent many hard hours working with the Advanced Band Mr. Craft has gone beyond the call of duty in fulfilling the qualifications for an out- standing music department. The Falconettes and Falconaires participate in the Spring Concert. 94 he Keynotes in Music These students work faithfully at overcoming the trials of Beginner’s Band After the tribulations of Beginner’s Band, the Advanced Band makes many appearances throughout the school year. One of their most honorable appearances was at the Azalea Festival in Wilmington. Honor is achieved by Jim Dees, Thomas Andrews, and Richard Wynn who were chosen as members of the N. C. B, M. A. Band Clinic at East Carolina College 95 After many years of serving as the sponsor of the Annual Staff, Mrs. Sedalia S. Green receives the dedication of the 1965-1966 issue of The Governor. The dedication is presented by Linda Overman and Jo Carraway, Co- editors of The Governor. Deserving Students Are Honored at Awards Night Mr. Craft presents Ann Outland, Phyllis Hicks, and Faye Lane with awards for their service as majorettes. Others receiving the award are Betty Howell, Mary Sue Bogue and Jo Mitchell. I k !i 96 Faye Scott is the recipient of the Nahunta Grange Citizenship award which is presented to her by Mr, Johnnie G. Departing Seniors take a glance into their future through the windows of Aycock. 105 Dramacons’ Parents Sponsor Barbara Howell just can ' t seem to under- stand what Becky Lancaster has to say about the Lincoln Memorial. Marie Barefoot waits for a gentleman to offer her his seat while Judy Pope entertains. Debbie ' s, Bonnie ' s, and Louise ' s opin- ion of the Washington Monument can easily be interpreted. Mrs. Green, Mrs. Gardner, Mrs. Laurence, Mrs. Forehand, Mrs. Matthews, Mr. Thompson, Mrs. Wren, and Mrs. Bogue pose for a picture while waiting for the rest of the group. They were our mothers on the trip. While at the Arlington Cemetery we saw the change of the guards at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. 106 Trip to Washington D.C. While taking off for the moonlight cruise down the Potomac, one could see Washington a little better. These are only two of the many famous people seen in the Wax Museum. Everyone enjoyed his trip but was glad to start home. 107 Teddy Smith and Fred Har- per take it easy while they watch Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Davis start out to do all the work. Our lunchroom personnel take a break to have their picture taken before the surge of students during the first lunch period.
