a sprrrted clash ensued rn which we were defeated by a 2 1 score Chrp Hall scored rn the fourth perrod but agarn the lrne could not come up with the tying tally Wrlbraham and Wrllrston were the next two scheduled contests Avon suffered two more defeats by rdentrcal 2 1 scores Agarn rt was the failure of the lrne wrth regard to scoring power that resulted rn the losses Sam jackson agarnst Wrlbraham and Byron Tosr agarnst Wrllrston were the only goalgetters Bob Farrchrld once agarn displayed hrs prowess at the fullback positron and john Arrd demonstrated hrs abrlrty at halfback Parents Week End found the team playing host to Wat krnson A pourmg rarn greeted the two teams as they took the field In the first half Watkrnson bombed through two fourth quarter Steve Spyropoulos pushed through a goal for the home team but rt was not enough as the team lost once again by a 2 1 score The next Saturday Windsor Mountain was Avon s foe up rn Massachusetts Again rn a pourmg rarn the low scoring Avon team lost by a 4 0 count The defense was hampered by the drrvrng rarn as rt crossed up rts signals qurte frequently A resurgence now took place on the Avon team With a new type offense Westmrmter became an easy prey and was dealt a 2 0 defeat A hard shot bounced off therr goalre rn the first half and Tony Hoyt scored rn the second perrod The defense far exceeded rts past performances as Westmrn ster had but few shots at the Avon cage Kent was our next opponent rn a hard fought struggle nerther team could manage a score Both goalres were superb to say the least Bob Farrchrld and Pete Antolrnr were rnstru mental rn helprng Avons Buddy Sregel obtain hrs second shut out rn a row New England Champions Suffield arrrved confident of a vrcrory A strngy Avon team fell before the Black and White 3 1 Sufiield scored two of rts goals on penalty krcks as Sregel made many saves Brll Palmer played well as drd the entrre lrne rn general Roy Attrrde set up Chrp Hall rn the second half for Avons only score Monson was our last game and rt was played on a frozen field at Monson After a scoreless game Monson dented the Avon nets rn the first overtrme perrod and held on to a 1 0 well rn closing out therr soccer careers at Avon Because of rnabrlrty to score and weak reserves the team finished the season with a 2 9 1 record Whatever credrt due the team may be attributed to the leadership of Co captarns Bob Farrchrld and Cole Van De Water Coach Loveland was rnstrumental rn organrzrng the offense A lot of close decr srons were lost and the record mrght easrly have been re versed rf the team had lrved up to rts potential as rt drd rn the last four games The outlook for next year rs rather bright Four lettermen are expected back and many talented JV players are expected to come up through the ranks Thus this year s medrocre record should be improved upon Van De Water, Mr Loveland, Farrchrld goals while holding the hungry Avon offense to none.
