WE WILL NEVER FORGET HIS YEARS OF DEDICATION, PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING. WE WISH HIM WELL, KNOWING THAT WHEREVER HE GOES, HIS PRESENCE WILL ENRICH THE LIVES OF OTHERS. ADMINISTRATION SCHOOL COMMITTEE: Mr. Nolan, Mr Holmes, Mr Hegarty, Mrs. Peterson, Mrs. Olson. SUPERINTENDENT PRINCIPAL: Mr Loverin TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF 1984: As you graduate and look forward to the future, 1 offer my personal congratulations and wish you success, health and happiness. 1 hope we have been of some help as you pro- gressed through the various grades and classes towards graduation. 1 feel it is appropriate at this time to share an excerpt from the 1961 Inaugural Address of John F. Kennedy. I sincerely hope you will find it applicable as you leave Avon High School and reflect on your past and your future. “Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friends and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of their ancient heritage, and unwillilng to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which the nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today, at home and around the world.” ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL: Mr Chapman Once again, congratulations and good luck in your future. ,, i « ' -,u sJt ' «. • Wmaii rtW — « «• NADINE BRADSHAW Home Economics RICHARD BULLOCK Industrial Arts ROBERT CECCHINI Physical Education CAROLE CLOUGH Special Education LEE COLEMAN SHEA Speech LEE CONTI Spanish English HARRY ERAMIAN Social Studies TERRENCE GIBBONS Science AVON’S BEST RICHARD GIFFORD Math Science ROBERT HENDERSON Social Studies DANIEL HERL1HY Math Science BRUCE JUL1EN Business JANE DODGE Biology MICHAEL LANE Librarian MARIAN LORD Music VIRGINIA MAHONEY Art iiv.M ... . ‘V.vV ; ‘ ,y;i •. THE MORSS REVIEW MORSS ON THE SENIOR CLASS One winter Friday afternoon early in 1984, Scrooge slogged home from school feeling tired and decided to take a sinker. “Oh,” he thought, “how lovely not to have to go to school tomorrow. ” And as he drifted off to sleep he tried to imagine what life must be like for the driver of the Parker eighteen wheeler he had passed on Page Street that morning. His eyes closed and suddenly he found himself in the cab, talking with the driver. “Where is all this stuff headed? he asked, as the truck roared up 128 through Newton. “ Some is going to Hayward, California, and some is headed for Sao Paulo, Brazil, ” the driver yelled back. “We ' re carrying all sorts of stuff: Stromberg-Carlson stereos, Anderson windows, Lisa computers, Williams Aftershave, Webber barbecue grilles, Campbell soups, Mahon-naise- you name it, we got it in the back. ” By this time we were on the McGrath and O ' Brien Highway, rumbling along, when suddenly Nancy Veracka and Sheila Zablocki shot in front of us in a little White Lotus headed for Sullivan Square. Their radio was on full volume and playing “When the red red robin goes bob bob bobbin ' along. ” “Look at those two!” growled the driver. “Always the way. It really Maddens me. Never a Kopp around when you want one. ” In disgust he pulled off to go into a Duncan Donuts for coffee. As we sat down, he dropped some coins into the jukebox. It was a vintage Wurlitzer, complete with rainbow lights and Gothic styling. It began playing “Once in love with Amy.” “What other Melody will this play?” I asked. “This is famous all over town, ” he replied. One of the oldies is ‘Come Josephine in my Flying Machine. ' You should also hear Duke Ellington ' s rendition of ‘Laura-’ really stupendous. ” He winked at the waitress, a pretty Colleen, who was flirting and being Coy. We left, got back into the truck, and as he flipped the Daschke, the big Diesel roared to life. He decided to Turner around and head out another way. “Here,” he said, “It’s better in DeSena lane. The traffic moves faster. ” The light had changed and we made it just in DiNic of time, rumbling down the busy thoroughfare with St. Andrew’s NEVER A KOPP AROUND WHEN YOU WANT ONE. IN DISGUST HE PULLED OFF TO GO INTO A DUNCAN DONUT FOR COFFEE. Church on one side and on the other a billboard advertising a movie starring Ann- Margaret. On the way back to Avon after leaving off the cargo, we got thirsty and decided to pull into a dive called The Garden of Eden. He ordered a highball but Scrooge just wanted a glass of dry Sherry. Again he bunged some quarters into the jukebox, which played “Michelle” and some other number, a disco beat with jungle Tom-Toms, followed by something by Pink Floyd. Then the live entertainment came on. At a nearby table Cheryl Klimas and a boyfriend were holding Hands. Out in the Hall some Saylors, who were feeling no pain at all, were sky Larkin around. The Powers that be were getting rather annoyed at this frolicking and a Dick Tracy type in the form of Greg Tutkus, replete with fedora, went over to Chuck them out, so that the singer, Ellen DuBois, could be heard. But the Saylors were as stubborn as a Mule, and when he went over, they picked him up and began Tibnam over on his head. A scuffle followed. The cocktail waitress, Janet Czybora, screamed and dropped five mugs of beer. Finally two cops, Greg Carlson and Jim Gaquin, big burly fellows with nightsticks at the ready, burst through the door. They were Whiffen the air and what they smelled was not spring grass. Such a fracas finally broke out that the place looked like the laundry scene from “Mr. Roberts. ” Finally, though, the valiant cops won and had to Kerri out the miscreants. Since this was not turning out to be the peaceful, relaxing drink my pal and I had hoped for, he said, “C’mon, let’s get out of here. I’ve got stops to make at Meninno’s, Peterson Awning, and Nessralla’s, and then it’s home to Ballum Road. What happened on the trip back is not known because the telephone rang and Scrooge woke up. r vSSSis A : v EZjF i r imut j| 1 ll jdj — iTsl SUPERLATIVES BEST SMILE Kathy Jim BEST DRESSED Eddie Janet 36 MOST TALENTED Jonathan Ellen DONE MOST FOR AHS Vicki Adam BEST ALL-AROUND Ellen Dave MOST UNIQUE: Patrick Janean MOST TALKATIVE Adam Nancy CLASS FLIRTS: Greg Nancy 37 TEACHERS ' PET: Elaine Andrew BEST ATHLETES: Nancy Dave CLASS SWEETHEARTS: Greg Mary CLASS CLOWNS: Cheryl John REFLECTIONS OF OUR PAST 1 . Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same. And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged into a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.
