Seated left to right Attnde Holt Dr Mitchell Carter Davis D Standing left to rrght Tnerny M VanDeWater Law Rosenthal Ersklne P Robinson W Phillips King Lash Hampton Dodd Cook Dooley Brown L Beatson Sumner Downs Waddy Seidel CCLD KEY The Gold Key IS one of the most select and dis tmctlve organizations on campus It 15 upon the con scientlous work of this society that the success of many social functions on campus depends Whether lf be times during the school year the club IS an important aspect of extracurricular school life It IS not up to the individual to decide to yom the Gold Key this soclety elects him member after the ap proval of the entire club Once a member of the Gold Key a person IS required to serve at a number of func tions including Sunday teas held alternately at the homes of the Dean and the Provost which provide an opportunity for the faculty and students to gather in formally After athletic events, sports teas are held for vtsltmg teams and the Gold Key also resides over such functlons as serving refreshment! Ot the Glee Club and Student Council Dances There has always been considerable mterest at Avon in what is referred to as sCh00l Splflt The Gold Key represents what so many students are striving for in this regard In its own unpretentious manner the club is an excellent example of esptxt de corps The their common desire to help school life in whatever way they can Their only reward ts a club dinner at the end of the year and a small gold key to signify their membership in the club Dr Mitchell the clubs faculty advisor again has contributed unselfrshly of his time and effort to make the club have another successful year Its President Steven Holt has been dedicated and has served loyally in his own qulet but conscientious way Matt Tierney and Ronnie Nugent as Vice president and Secretary respectively have also done a fine job The club s motto Reddere Gestas Avonensis CTO make what is going go betterj defines its purposes and achievements adequately , , , -, ,,,, . . . . . .,e . . ,, . . . . . q Y o u y serving at a Sunday tea, or catering to guests at various members of the Club make its success possible through Y 7 . . . l , . . Seated left to right Gardner Barry Lash Mr Loveland Standina left to right Dooley Whitman Law Dawes Gallo Taylor T Dodd Hampton Lee Robinson J Waddy Grossman Finlayson OBrien Chambers Rozmsky Otto Ayres J HISTORY CLUB Although the History Club has always been one of the most outstanding extra curricular organizations on Club provides a good platform for debates practice in parliamentary procedure and the opportunity to at tend worth while outside functions The Club has shown a keen interest in the activi ties of the Foreign Policy Association of Hartford This organization sponsors lectures and films on topics of current interest Through this assocratxon the club members had the opportunity to hear a speaker on Greece and the Middle East and a talk by Chester A Bowles The F P A sponsored a Model United Na tions Assembly in which our History Club pattici pared as representatives of Egypt and China I preparation for this event certain members had the opportunity to go to the United Nations in New York and interview the actual representatives of these countries This year members Barry Kolodney Lash Gardner Mitchell Chambers Dawes and Grossman represented the History Club at the Model United Nations When not preparing for outside engagements with the F P A many of the Clubs meetings were spent with debates and impromptu speeches One of the debates during the year was titled Resolved that Al geria should be given complete autonomy from France Many of our members showed promising sky The Club therefore compensates for our lack of a publtc speaking club on campus Current events have also played an important part in the clubs program for the first time this year In terest was stimulated by the members subscriptions to magazines on world affairs The club has not limited its intellectual contribu tions to its members During the fall term it spon sored a speech given by Professor Gates of Trinity College All history students were invited to attend this talk on the Constitution A great deal of the Club s success can be attributed to the fine organization and leadership of its President Ed Barry The Vice President, Joseph Kolodney Secretary Stephen Lash and Treasurer, Lanny Gard ner all served very capably The faculty advisor Mr Loveland never failed to contribute to the betterment of the club Hrs excellent supervision and suggestions were always appreciated The Hrstory Club has many able underclassmen as members, as a result it should long remain one of the most noteworthy clubs at Avon , e ' y i -'V 5 ' A x ' f . tw' T1 ' W Q' . - .
