The junior high haskethall has faced two particular prohlems this year, First. they have had In overcome the advantage ol' much greater height which most other teams in the league have over them, Secondly, they lacked the experience which would make them smooth players. Most meinhers ol' this team were seventh graders who had no knowledge ol' the game at all and had never had any opportunity to play it. The team did not have a very successful season, as far as the numher of wins and losses are concerned: hut the strides they made in learning to play the game and manipulating the hall were remarkahle, Mr, Mass, who coached the team, said that the improvement in their play- ing is unhelievahle. These fellows will show the effects of their junior high experience when they eventually get their chance to play on varsity or reserves. The hoys practised early every morning hefore school f-when most hoys were still in hed. Most ol the practice sessions were spent in learning fundamentals. Don Bayley. the captain. was outstanding for his ahility to drive the hall. Don Peak was a good calm defensive man when the game got close. Vactor Coleman and Dukie Reed were hoth quick with the legfwork and seemed to he everywhere at once. jim Bayley was a good ollense man, and featured a surprise lelbhanded shot. Charles Maurer was ahle to play all position- with ease, Taddy Smith and Gihhy Forthofer hecame adept at handling the hall. TilIffj SIX

Marjorie Hart, Lois Papp. This is the first Girls' Athletic Association in Avon High School. Miss Richmond, a new ineniher of our faculty, introduced this organization. The purpose of the G.A.A. is to stimulate the girls' interest in a wide variety of athletics. The girls are given awards on the hasis of a point system. The awards consist of pins and let ters. Each girl participates in as many activities as possihle, in order to earn an award.
