'Y I . - . , . . ' ' The enthusiasm of the boys for track has increased very much to what it has been. There were 32 boys participating in track events. Some have greet talent for the sport. From the material at hand, many of the boys combine their efforts to make a well-balanced track team. They do not boast of any champions, but their willingness to do their best has given them wins against rough competition. About one-third of the boys have eamed the f-eqaired iwrnbcr of points in order to receive their Major Varsity letter. ' BASKETBALL y This year the basketball season was a successful one. A few of the teams we ran up against were better, but our boys gave them a run for their money every time. This year we had tlree seniors onthe team. Next year we will have several varsity back, and we hope to have a bigger and better- team. The B team made an excellent showing as first team substitutes. We hope to see more play from from these boys in the coming years. The Fulton County Basketball Tournament was held in the new Avon Gym this year. This was the first time in many years that it had been held in Avon. .FOOTBALL T The 1951 -football squad experienced great success in their seasons play. The Trojans only defeat was handed to them by their rival school-Roseville. Thirty-six boys participated in the football program. Nineteen Major letters were awarded and several minor letters. With only five senior- boys receiving major letters, agood necleus for a coming ball club remains. Dick Repp and Bill Hopkins were elected honorary .captains for the- season. Dick was an able field general and constantly kept the foe busy finding him. Dick received honorable mention on the Illinois All Star Team. Bill' played tackle, offensive and defensive, and turned in a teniffic game each and every night. Most of his time was spent in the opponents back field. Bill Sorrells rounded out his season playing guard-both offensively and defensively. Jack Sublett was changed from guard position to end position. Jack did a lot of playlg in the opponents backfield too. Bill Sensabaugh played left half-back for the past two seasons. His fake plays enabled him tb scoot for many gains through the opponents defenses. ' ' Dave- Jackson was one of the mainstays in the Trojan backfield. He could play well at a.ny of the back positions. His passing and punting achievements were of the highest caliber.. Danny Steach took over the defensive quarterback slot and did very will at it. rlis ability to sense passes was of real value to our defenses. D fl . 4 . .3 4 .
