Our team was inexperienced andftmarlwm Bushnell scored early in the first halfn nd it wasnftsu. ilQfn'thc closing minutes of the game that the Trojans went eve f'r their score. It was a pass off' of the 'l ' from quart- bag fckcr, to the tailbeck in motion, Hemp. The team fihoked go for their first appearance of the year. X For the second game of the season our team journeyed to Cuba. lt was a rainy dey and definitely our team 'as at a disadvantage since they were running from a MTU wit a man in motion. The Trojans scored early in the first quar wr on gn Hoff tacklen trap play with Baker goingf over tacklh and lateraline to Ruff who had cut around end after a fake 'Ruff ran for fwenty yards and then lsteraled to Repp who -fd been the man in motion on this psrticdlzr pley. Thf, play cov- ered approximately 65 yards and was good for our only TD, Cuba came back in the second half and scored two touchdowns to win the game by a score of l5 to 7. T Macomb came to Avon for our next same and want home with an 8 to 6 victory.' This was the third strright game that the Trojans had shown up well. It seemed as though'the only thing needed in any of these games was a little size in the backfield for those few extra yards at crucial moments. Macomb scored on several long pass plays and 5 hloekfd cunt. Avon's score came when baker vent over tackle on f str ight HTH plunge for 40 yards. Emerson Huff played an outstanding game on defense for the Trojans. The next Friday Alexis was our foe and the boys best them 24 to O. Several reverse plays were used with much success as Trumpy ran wild for severil long gains on his end-around. Bricker and Baker each scored twice on line plunges. The all importahg Abingdon game arrived at the peek of the Trojans performance. This was undoubtedly their best game of the season even if wc lost 7 to O. Most of this game was played in Abingdon's own territory as our Trojans hed'Lhe ball within their 5 yard several times but were un- able to score. Only once did ihingdon penetrste our twenty yard line and that was on their touchdown run from the thirty yard line. It was during this game that Potter and Jack on pliyed their outstfnding games at'tfckle and guerd respectively. These two boys were constantly moving the Abingdon line. s Our next three games were vary disappointing. We were inflicted with injuries and inelisibility for these gamesg however, the boys met the occasion gallantly. Roseville beat us 46 to 6 and Aledo Sl to O. Our'last, game of the season was with Knoxville. They beat us l9 to 7. Paul Potter, Jim Jackson, Emerson Ruff, Vern Bricker, and Jack Laker represented Avon as Little Six All-Stars. Emerson Ruff and Vern hricker were teins. 1 V .'A 'HR 5 . chosen team co-cop- I-'-X ,,.... 4' ' . I . Fe Q I ,- - 1' 1 ,n,4g., ga ,L Q we ' NNE! 5 i 1-gl - FOOTBALL Mb, H r' 1 SN f .. Thirty-eight boys reported for basketballg and shortly after practice was under way two squads were formed. All seniors and most all or the juniors were placed on the var- sity squad. Those who ended the season on the Varsity were: Jim Jackson, Howard Foster, Bob Trumpy, John Wingate, Don Orwig, Bud Alden, and Jack Baker. All these boys received varsity letters. The junior squad consisted of albert royle, Ralph Par- ker, Dudley Donaldson, Dean Uoupland, hay Garrico, Cedric Dowell, Donny Myers, Hod O'Hern, Danny Williamson, Bill - J Crosson, Janes Hendel, Lrnie Repp, Martin Moon, Deb ngndall, and Kenny Alden. ' Jim Jackson played a consistent defensive game for the Trojans all season, and will be remembered for his spirit and drive. lt seemed as though Jim was always good forzifew points at that crucial moment. Bob Trumpy was outstanding on our five this year as the play-maker ,then too, his defensive work was clways pxrissed when not in the line-up. nlong with Jim, Bob was one or our most consistent scorers ell season. Bob was ourcenter but played in Q forward position on offense. Howard Foster, the third senior, will also b -..f missed around school next basketbpll season. Although Frog wesnlt a regular starter, he was the sixth man and saw considerable action during the seeson. Frog will always be remembered for his fine personality and willingness to work. L re's wishing all three of you seniors, Howard, Jim, and Bob, the best of luck. ' The three juniors on our squad were John Win at,, Don Orwig, and Jack Baker. John was probably the best stot on the squad and proved that in several games. This was Jehn's first season as a regular and no doubt he will be a vnludblc member of next year's squad. Don broke into the stzrtlng line-up about mid-season and sure did well on sev,rQl oc- casions. Don definitely has his good night,so look out, for he surely can dump in the baskets. Bud Alden made the stzrting fiv- as a sophomere. He played in around the basket and did a commendable job at re- bounding. With more experience Bud will be a strong conten- der for one of the forward spots in the following two years. Barney O'Donnell and Elmer Howard did a splendid JOD as Uunagers. These boys were a greet asset to the team even though they did eat candy during the basketball games. fl INWIW, rp 1 sg le, ' N f 1 --1 ' . 1.- X.
