DECLAMATIO The home declamation contest on January 3l resulted in the following winners: Humorous-- The Mad Hatter's Tea Party, Nancy Barrett, The Department Store, Douglas Schaaf, The Golden Nugget, Janelle Schaaf. Oratorical-- What's Happened to Patriotism, Jean Gronborg, From Whence Cometh My Help, Lorraine Bierring, Impetuous Youth, Angela Merkert. Dramatic-- Our Town, Marilyn Lippold, Magic Night, Jane Kaven, The Horse, Connie Rold. A one-act play entitled The Lottery was also slated for appearance at contests. Members of the cast were Mary Grace King, Connie Rold, Polly Scheel, Ruth Karstens, Orvetta Fischer, Douglas Schaaf, Dennis Lorenzen, Jerry Nelson, George Shidler, J . Olesen, and Stephen Anderson. Six interpretive readings were presented at the district contest on February 24. Poetry-- Home Burial, Nancy Barrett, Mr. Flood's Party, Mary Jean Heesch, four short poems by E. A. Robinson, Janet Griggs. Prose-- General Eisenhower and D Day, Dennis Lorenzen, How We Kept Mother's Day, Poi-y-Scheel, Star Boarder, Mary Beatty. SENICDR CLASS PLAY STARD UST The senior class presented a three-act comedy on May 8. The setting was a dramatic school Full of students who were trying to live their art. A very famous actress, Prudence Mason, came to the school as a guest to star in one of their plays. To the students surprise, she was a very nomlal hard-working girl. Prudence didn't know how to handle these over-arty students. She did suc- ceed in teaching a valuable lesson to the dramatic students and in solving her own personal prob- lems.
