The Spaghetti Supper was a great succes for us. The food was deli- cious and the atmosphere one of utmost enjoyment. It was really quite educational. We learned how hard it is to carry' three plates of spaghetti on one tray, as many hearts failed from our near accidents. We learned that it is not easy to make curtains stay up. But, most of all, we learned unity and cooperation. The supper really brought our class together. Yes, with the help of our great cooks, Mr. and Mrs. Weaver, the Spaghetti Supper was all that we had hoped it would be. And throughout the cafeteria that night echoes could be heard: Thatsa good!!! Our potato-picking adventures were highlighted by throwing potatoes at our sweet bushy-faced advisors. Crape picking was something else. Al- though we did not get many grapes in the crates, we sure got a lot in our stomachs and on people around us. We also did a little apple pick- ing. The class was its usual self in that apples were flying all over the place. All these activities have been very important to our class. Not only have they given us money toward our senior trip, but have helped unify our class, by working together. We've also had a lot of fun to- gether, improving our accuracy and precision in the delicate art of throwing. We also increased our vocabulary and we've had a lot of fun learning together and getting ready to accept that great big world out there. Seniors “Pickin' ” 21 V CATHY J. Language TV' S 1 Now that we are Seniors and have finished the long, hard haul of high school, we find ourselves remembering those special years now behind us. In our Freshman year, we felt really important . . . WE WERE IN HIGH SCHOOL!! We struggled through History and Algebra and all too quickly found we were just little squirts after all. As Sophomores we felt like the middle of an Oreo cookie, squeezed in between the Itty-Bitty Freshmen and the Jolly Jolly Juniors. Then we became more involved in class projects, and finally things were looking up. Then, as Juniors, we began to realize that we really were get- ting up there. We were trusted more, our Senior trip became an attainable goal. We saw some of our closest friends graduate and leave us. Well, here we are. still in one piece, and we can think of only one bit of advice for all future Seniors. Keep on Truckin' Row I: R. Comstock, B. Towner, C. Bostwick, J. Pound, D. Brock- way. Wilson, Mrs. Murphy 72 B.O.C.E.S. Ter y S As with all sports, when you are a young team it takes time to get it together. Coach White had almost an entirely new team to deal with. Even with this set- back the team made out pretty well and had a great time. NOTE: See page 104 for names of Tennis and Track members. The track team had a very successful year, placing second in the county. County champions were Tim Kinney. Perry Brandow, and Neil War- ner in two events. Neil also won the section 5 class C championship in both high and intermediate hurdles. Hopefully, we'll have an even better team this year due to the fact that 12 lettermen (7 seniors) should be returning. 77 Girls Row I: J. Lauriha, K. Robinson, C. Robords, B. Robinson, C. Houser, D. Brunner, C. Eaton, M. Wright, J. Sul- livan, J. Strait. Beginning the year with one returning starter, the soccer team lacked experience. This made it a rough season for Coach Shanley. But, the Tigers gained mo- mentum at the end of the season, beating both Haverling and Hammondsport, who went to sectionals. The team enjoyed the year, showing a lot of enthu- siasm and team spirit. Next year looks promising for Avoca Soccer. The girls had a good intermural program for soccer this year. There were about seventy girls participating. There are four teams and they had a lot of fun. 81 iKial battle betw kley and the C'.Wld | were the usual as the relay I basketball. The the activities' 'he evemna etidc Last year, our Tigers ended the season with an 18-4 record and a second place in Class D, Section V. This year, the team which will be coached by Mr. Skillman, has moved up to Class C, which means bigger and better competition. The Tigers, although young, are hopeful of another successful season. 84 VARSITY BASKETBALL: J. Caron, T. Loveland, T. Kenney, M. Wright, D. Snyder, C. Warner, C. Eaton, D. McRae, T. Davis, J. Davis, J. Sullivan, P. Brandow, Mr. Skillman. Seeing a boy become a man is perhaps, for a coach the most rewarding aspect of his work. In wrestling, especially, I think, the individual has a real opportunity to fach chal- lenging situations which test his discipline, maturity, and responsiveness to others. For me, me, coaching such a dynamic athletic endea- vor has brought memorable reward, self-con- fidence and a wealth of wonderful and gener- ous friends. My thanks to all who have fol- lowed us--wrestling will. I'm sure, continue to produce young men who are eager and con- fidently willing to represent Avoca Central School--for me these men are extension of my family; a man could ask for no finer sons than the wrestlers which 1 have coached.
