TtedmtioK It’s really a great thought when you look back through your high school years and find one teacher who has continued to stick with you through the bad times as well as the good. Our class has gone through humiliating incidents and although he has criticized us, more important, he has believed in us. He has helped us renew our confidence in ourselves during the tough times. He has always been willing to devote his time to us even when he probably had other things to do. The Senior Class of 1969 has enjoyed many memorable times, too, and through these he has also been by our side. We hope that this is one of those memorable occasion for him, as we, The Class of 1969, dedicate our AVOCAN to Mr. Jack Gross. Appwiailoti Everyone seems to have a lasting impression of his first years in school. The image of school was a pleasant one for it wasn’t a time of all work and no fun. One teacher made it fascinating to come to school because she created an atmosphere of work mixed with play. Our first years at school are very important ones, for they set the building blocks for our future education. By mixing work with play it’s more exciting to learn and that is the reason we give our appreciation to the lady who started many of us way in First Grade, Mrs. Harriet Partridge. '7umbd Hem tlmu There is nothing new; only a revival of something old, in a new setting. Fads come and go. Man can survive fads, soc- ial disorders, and nature’s disasters, if he remembers that in- tegrity, hard work, self-discipline and high standards are im- portant. We hope the Class of 1969 is equipped to recognize the value of setting goals and working toward their fulfillment. v PRESIDENT BEVERLY KAY SHARP Math., Science Language SECRETARY BEATRICE ANCIERS GOODRICH Language STUDENT COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE VIRGINIA LEE ALSHEIMER Math., Science Language STUDENT COUNCIL ALTERNATE LINDA LEE DOCKSTADER Homemaking Business VICE-PRESIDENT PAUL MICHAEL LYNCH Business TREASURER KATHRYN AMELIA LYNCH Math., Science Language Math., Science Language BONITA JEAN BENJAMIN BERNARD CARLTON TOWNER Voc. Guided by Mrs. Edwards and Mr. Blend in our Freshman year, we started working as a class and ex- perienced both smooth and rough roads along the way. For our first fund raising activity, we sold the Freshman School Calendar which sent us on our way with SI28.32. Soon we had a record hop for our Freshman Dance. The theme was “Winter Wonderland” and we made $88.17. That was our last big activity together as Freshmen for before we knew it we were on Sophmoresville Road with Mr. Gross and Mrs. Edwards as advisors. Yes, there we were. Sophomores al- ready a quarter of our journey and a year’s experience closer to our goal. We loved every minute of it, and we wanted to start the year off right, so we decided that the best way was to fatten up our treasury. In doing this, we took a little turn off, right into Goodrich’s field to do you- know-what-pick potatoes! This activity was so successful that we carried it over into our Junior year to give us a grand total of $909. Then for our Sophomore Dance we had Attila and the Huns as our band. The theme was “Winter Explosion and it was quite a successful explosion, for we made $187.18. We had plenty of fun and hard work as Sophomores, but time didn’t stand still, and once again, be- fore we knew it, we had come to a new road. This was Jun- iorsville. As Juniors we still needed those dollars. Something had to be done right away, or else. We came through with fly- ing colors (green silver). We made $315.17 on our Spa- ghetti Supper. We also started selling pop at home basketball games. Every little bit helped. Another of our profitable activities came when we turned ourselves into traveling salesmen and sold Zip Code Directories. We made a big $381.10. Then, for our Junior Dance, we had the band, Ja- son and the Argonauts. Our theme was “Psychedelic 60’s”, and we made $158. As a final Junior activity we undertook the Alumni Banquet which added another $150 profit. We had traveled many miles by the end of our Junior year and knew that the remaining miles would be the most important of our whole journey. After reaching Seniorsville Road, we started on one of the few remaining walks, selling magazines. We were able to go over our goal, and to cele- brate a job well done, the girls treated the boys to a Pizza Party at the Avoca Fire Hall. We had a grand time and this event along with many others we will long remember as his- tory made by the Class of 1969! ROW I: P. Bauter.C. Wraight, J.Cann.S. House, N. Bliss, G. Weldy, C. Plank, C. Soon we will be rounding the bend in the road and our lives. Some of us will continue to travel on the edu- cational highway on through college. Others will enter vari- ous side roads leading them, hopefully to their goal. Our high school turnpike was filled with many bumps and obstacles, but soon all will be forgotten as we start on a new road that we hope will be smoother. Good luck, Class of 1969!
