TWICLECS The following twirling exhibitions were presented by Marilyn Hippenhammer, Drum Majorette, Connie Beck- berger and Esther Winebrenner throughout the year: a flag raising ceremony and twirling at home basketball ga .es. leading the band at the Halloween Parade in Avilla, enter- ing Michiana Twirling contest in which Marilyn Hippen- hammer was rated Superior, and entering the contest at New Troy, Michigan. FIRST ROW: Jerry Mueller, Charles Fordyce, Allen Owen, Jim Bianski, Merton Buehrer, Wayne Tarlton, Maynard Campbell. SECOND ROW: Mr. Ncedham, Kenny Douglas, Paul Wolf, Roger Harrod, Paul Geiger, Jack Moore, Dick Hclmka.-ip. BOYS CHORUS This year the boys chorus was organized by Mr. Robert Need- ham. Sixteen boys made up the chorus. They sang at the County Festival and the Spring Concert. 29

THIRD ROW: Jane Garman, 3rd cornet; Eva Belle Owen, 3rd cornet; Sandra Schauweker, 2nd cornet; Ellen Parks, 2nd cornet; D ' Maris Uhl, 1st cornet; Stanley Freed, trombone; Helen Conrad, baritone. BACK ROW: Merton Buehrer, snare drum; John Noffze, cymbols; Betty Grocock, bass drum; Charles Fordyce, sousophone; Jean Imler, sousophone; Mr. Needham, director. The band, as a concert unit, has participated in many events this year. It has been under the competent leadership of Mr. Robert Needham. The band consists of 28 mem- bers, of which 11 are beginning students. The band ' s activities of the year include: Marching in a Halloween Parade at Avilla, playing for all the home basketball games, participating in the Noble County Festival, entering the contest at Nappanee on April 3, giving a Spring concert, and playing for graduation activities. Five members formed the ensemble which took part in the December P.T.A. pro- g ' aTi. They are as follows: Alice Wright (Saxophone), Ruth Uhl, (Saxophone), D ' Maris Uhl (Cornet), Ellen Parks (Cornet), and Georgia Schlupp (Piano). The following members entered the Solo and Ensemble Contest at Fort Wayne on February 21; Merton Buehrer (Drum), Alberta Fischer (Clarinet), and D ' Maris Uhl ( Cornet ) .

SECOND ROW: Wretha Stice, Rita Keonig, Margaret Parr, Ruth Lash, Lavon Rhodes, Ellen Parks, Helen Conrad, Mary Foster, Beverly Uhl, Velma Weimer. THIRD ROW: Dolores Grimm, Lillian Myers, Donna Bell Miller, Lois Traxler, LaVera Knach, Martha Freeman, Marjorie Freeman, Chloe Peters, Joan Teders, Doris Castator. .FOURTH ROW: Lillian Juengal, Betty Grocock, Maxine Householder, Donna Pfafman, Alice Wright, Lucille Hampshire, Jean Imler, Georgia Schlupp, Pat Crothers, Pat Walt, Betty McBride. The girls chorus has been under the leadership of Mr. Robert Needham the past year. The chorus consists of 41 voices who participated in the following programs dur- ing the year: The Junior play, County Festival, Commencement and Baccalaureate exer- cises, and the Spring Concert. The following girls made up the Twelve Girl Ensemble: Maxine Jarret, Rita Koenig, Helen Conrad. Ellen Parks, D ' Maris Uhl, Patty Jackson, Lavonne Rhodes, Alice Wright, Pat Crothers, Betty McBride, Beverly Uhl, and Georgia Schlupp. The ensemble filled several engagements after its organization. They were: singing for the Junior play. Spring Concert, ta ' ring part in Good Friday services, and entering the Contest at Fort Wayne on February 21. Three soprano soloists entered the contest at Fort Wayne: Maxine Jarrett, Rita Koenig and Ellen Parks. 30
