Fifth Row: Robert Carteaux, Russell Scheurich, Arthur Jordan, Max Miller. On September 16, forty-four timid freshmen entered the door of Avilla High School for their milestone. As our fore-runners, we chose Miss Harrison as our sponsor; James Leach, president; Donald Rhodes, vice president; Ralph Housholder, secretary-treasurer. Although we tried to be happy, our happiness was marred by the Freshman Initiation of Friday, October 18. We were required to put our clothing on backwards and have our hair decorated with binder-twine. Then, after rolling a peanut across the gym floor with our noses, we were taken out to scrub the front sidewalks with tooth- brushes. After this, we were rewarded with ice cream, pop, candy, and crackers. Other parties were held during the year. During the year we lost Arcille Lung and Irene Owen and gained Robert Helmkamp.
