It is over; the picture is painted. No changes the brush can display, And the Master of Art gives his verdict, “No Master piece yet,” doth He Say. But a new brush, canvas, and colors, Are placed in our hands with delight, And with this, and outline for service Is laid by the canvas of white. And when this last picture is painted, And those tubes are twisted and dried, The brushes laid down by the easel. And folded the outline and guide— When the sun sinks to rest on the hilltop, And tints of red, gold and gray Steal in as the shadows of evening Are kissing the sunbeams of day— May we hear in that still hush of even, The voice of The Artist so grand: “Through love and through service you've conquered :— A masterpiece here in thy hand.”
