The Avilla High School Band is completing its second year under the direction of Mr. O ' Reilley. The band has been very active in the past season, appearing in the following programs: A series of twelve outdoor summer concerts in Avilla; a series of eight such concerts at Albion, Indiana; October 5, concert for the Matinee Music Club at Kendallville and participation in the parade at the Auburn Fair on the same date; November 10, Armistice Day program; November 14, concert and chicken supper; November 15, followed basketball team to Albion and played between games; January 6, mass band at Huntertown for basketball game; February 2, Huntertown band came here and formed mass band for basketball game. Aside from the programs listed the band has played for numerous other programs of a miscellaneous nature. The band added a new attraction for basketball fans this year by marching and making letter formations at all the home games, and at the last two games added four girls doing synchronized baton twirling. The proceeds from the chicken supper help to make it possible for us to buy new instruments which were needed to give us more complete in- strumentation. Four senior members received letter awards last year. These students were Evelyn Wineland, Dwight Sheets, Everitt Padgitt, and Evelyn Albertson. Graduating seniors who will receive awards this year are Daphne Harrod, Maxine DeHoff, Idress Hoot, and Louis Lash. The band members wish to thank the school, parents. Lions Club, and the local merchants who have contributed in any way toward making this last year a successful one and promise that they will do their best to make them- selves worthy of the kindness that has been shown them.
