FOREWORD EDITOR AND SPONSOR This Is just another school annual, you say? How mistaken you are! To a passerby, yes; but to students of Avery High School It means much, much more. The friends made here, the achievements mastered, the disappoint- ments suffered, and knowledge acquired here have made A.H.S. a very spe- cial building. It would be difficult to ever forget the crowded halls . . . the assem- blies . . . the excitement of a close game; . . .the pass slips . . . the cold bumpy bus rides . . . cramming for tests . . . the discussions in class . . . the mad scramble for the door . . . And so, here is your book, the 1960 BULLDOG, which we give to you. May you always remember this memorable year in good old A. H. S. WYNONA WARREN Yearbook Editor WYNONA WARREN REBECCA WELLS CONTENTS DEDICATION We, the staff of the 1961 BULLDOG, proudly dedicate this an- nual to the Bus Drivers of our school who help make possible the fine education that each boy and girl receives. They have been effective in giving every student greater opportunities for learning so that he will be better prepared to go forward into the future. Without their untiring assistance, it would have been impossible for us to have had the school trips we have had, and we sincerely wish to extend a token of appreciation to those individuals who have so unselfishly given of their time and efforts to the interest and ad- vancements of Avery School. ADMINISTRATION Elementary Limbi SCHOOL BOARD Grover Braden, Truman Bishop, Harold Wood, Bill Moore, Burris Bearden, Frank Jackson, Superintendent;!. E. Michie MESSAGE TO THE BOARD We wish to thank the Board for their ever- present interest and leadership during our high school years. What they have done for our benefit will serve as an inspiration for us to strive toward even greater achievements in the future. Senior Class of 1961 LARRY TUCKER FRANK JACKSON High School Superintendent Principal KENNETH DAWSON Elementary School Principal SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE A fine spirit of loyalty and cooperation is very evident in Avery High School. I congratulate the annual staff and sponsor on your devotion to the task of producing one of the best annuals that Avery High or any other school has produced. Although I realize that no individual or group is perfect, there is evidence that the majority of the students of Avery High School are constantly striving to do a good job in their daily work and association with each other. I am proud of the record we have made during this school year and proud of you, the student body, for your cheer- ful cooperation with each other and with the faculty in trying to make this the very best school in the world. You have worked with equal zest, whether it be on the ath- letic team or in the realm of social and scholastic clubs or school work. I hope that each member of the staff as well as each student will continue to give the same earnest attention to whatever vocation you choose for your life's work that you have displayed here, for after all, the greater part of success is due to hard work. It has been a genuine pleasure to have been associated with you during this school year and I am looking forward to many more pleasant relationships with you. I FACULTY FACULTY FRANK W.
