The '58 season was highly successTul wiTh Averill Parlc emerging undeTeaTed Trom The CenTral l-ludson Valley League. The only losses encounTered were non-league games. Some oT The highlighfs oT The lasT spring season were Dick Dodson's no-hiT, no-run game againsT Maple l-lilly sophomore Kevin Kronau's Tive vicTories, and Bill Rosenberg's Towering home run againsT Ravena which llbaggedm The CHVL championship Tor The Warrior nine. Dick Dodson No-hiT, no-run game. Larry Carr STeller shorTsTop Two 4-3 vicTories over second place Ravena were The ouT sTanding Team eTTorTs broughT TorTh during The campaign. Mid- way Through The year The TirsT of These Two vicTories came abouT in an exTra inning TilT aT Ravena, and laTer on anoTher come-Trom- behind vicTory againsT The same club on our home diamond. Through The eTTorTs and exTremely accuraTe second-guessing oT Coach Al Deshaw The Team won iTs TirsT baseball crown in more Than a decade. Senior-Faculty Game Preegame preparaTion was under way Thursday and Friday beT'ore The game. The halls were pIasTered wiTh posTers Telling oT The hoT Seniors and The old Facuify. As The Time drew closer, The aTmosphere beTween The Seniors and Teachers was TighT as a drum. Everyone knew, oT course, ThaT The FacuITy was in Tor a beaTing. The TirsT game Tound The women TacuITy and The senior girls in close compeTiTion. The senior girls were clad in assorTed haTs which were, To say The IeasT, very coIorT'uI. The FacuITy didn'T look Too good and was panTing preTTy hard. Referees were RuTh Henkel and Miss McAuley, and scorer was Mary Cooley. The senior line-up consisTed of Fancy Nancy Ford, Marksman MarTin, Sheboom Shaw, WiIT The STilT Wilkie, Push-shoT Prior, Leapin Lee, Whip-snappin WeTherwas, Wee Willie Wilson, Jumpin Jones, SeT-shoT Shoemaker, AnimaTed Anamier, and Razzle-dazzle RenderT. BoITin Bullis and ATTa girl Adler were coaches. The T'acuITy line-up consisTed of Miss Cosgrove and Jean Healy from EasT Greenbush, Jamie Owen Trom Troy, Barbara Carr, Alice Palmer, Delores Kronau, Sharon Burdick, Miss Honig, Miss Finder, and Miss Cole. In The TirsT quarTer, Nancy Ford sparked The seniors, while Jean Healy was hiTTing The baskeT Tor The TaculTy. IT was a preTTy even maTch righT up unTiI half Time, wiTh The seniors on The deTensive and The TacuITy on The oTTensive. AT haIT Time The score was IO To I5 wifh The TaculTy ouT in TronT. I-IaIT Time was marked by a rioT caused by The senior cheer- leaders who really puT on a show and sparked The seniors on in The second halT. BUT all Their cheerleading was in vain as The TacuITy sTayed ouT in TronT despiTe The seniors' eTT'orTs. Final score was I3 To 35. The TaculTy did win, buT we have To admiT They were preTTy lucky! The beTween-game period was marked by more anTicsq This Time by The senior girls. The senior line-up consisTed oT Terry Brod, George DuTcher, Rodney James, Ralph DoberT, Bob Barbour, Tom KiTTIe, Jim Gleason, STeve Kohn, Warren Giering, Bill I-lull, Bill Rosenberg, Bob Dzerrrbo, John Albanese, Fred Shoemaker, Jack MiddleTon, Jack BonesTeel, Dave CarpenTer, and Jim Quarno. The TacuITy was represenTed by Coach DeShaw, Mr. Beach, Mr. Alexander, Mr. Ray, Mr. Cox, Mr. Wi Tbeck, Coach Young Mr. BranT, Mr. Snyder, Mr. Tallrnan, ard Principal Fuller. The TirsT quarTer Tound The Teachers really sweaTing iT ouT'and were barely able To mainTain Their slim Two poinT lead. ReTerees were Ralph Wehnau and VViI'iam Carr, and They had guiTe a Time keeping up wiTh The acTion. T-laIT' Time score was IO To I3 wiTh The TaculTy ouT in TronT by a very slim margin despiTe The game seniors' eTTorTs, Second haIT found The seniors on The oTTensive as The TaculTy was iusT holding on, A high poinT in The game was marked when Coach DeShaw was shoT and was wheeled ouT in a wheelbarrow. Even This didn'T Taze The Tacu'Ty and They kepT on plugging, AT The end of The Third guarTer The TaculTy had 27 poinTs and The seniors had I5 poinTs. Mr. WiTbeck was hiTTing The baskeT Tor The TacuiTy, Terry Bred, Warren Giering, and Jim Quamo were Top scorers Tor The seniors. DespiTe The seniors' eTTorTs, Tlre TacuITy won by a close score of 30 To 36. This loss proves ThaT YouTh haTh sTrengTh and vibrance, and age haTh experience. Page 92
