V. I I June 1957 Dear Mr. Finegan. We, the Seniors of the present graduating class, wish to dedicate our yearbook to you. Thank you is an expression, which said in various ways, stands for different things. To all of us it means appreciation for the excellent guidance and wisdom you have displayed this year. We really needed someone to depend on in the turning point of the long road we have followed. Your understanding and expert advice seem to serve as a sign post showing us that the rough road could he smooth and easy to conquer. Leaving Averill Park High School is one of the most difficult tasks we are facing. You have made it a home for us as well as a solid foundation for ourformative years. Wherever any one of us may turn when the fork in the road is reached, We will carry a little bit of your spirit and hospitality with us. The theme of our yearbook is to look ahead to new futures. Once again we thank you for making our futures something worthwhile to anticipate. Sincerely yours, The Graduating Class of 1957 Page 4 l I I -no ' Wm 'Gfx 1 , I. Cole A. DeShaw J. Rohrwasser J. E. G5 l Page 33 X Yes, all seventy-one of us have finally reached the climax of our high school career. As we look back, we remember four years that never seemed too easy, and sometimes seemed too hard. But in the midst of serious work many activities created a pleasant diversion. Who could forget the junior Prom, the fun and excitement of choosing class rings, or our own senior play? Yes, we enjoyed each year with its fun mixed in with the task of learning. Now that graduation brings to a close our life together at Central, we go our separate ways to face the future with a feeling of enrichment and satisfaction. Page 34 0 Eli! TO OUR CLASS ADVISORS We're on our way, the day has come, and now we're on our own, But first we Want to thank you for making this our home. With patience and with guidance, you helped to set us rightg If not for all the aid you gave the work would not seem light. You've done your share and helped us plan for futures yet to come And still were second parents when we felt so ,blue and glum. Thank you is a quiet word that's said without a fussg We promise in these years to come welll make you proud of us. Below is our band at one of the many practice sessions in preparation for the annual event. Under the able direction of Mr. Decker, the mixed choir pre- sented a varied repertoire including, Kentucky Babe , The Whiffenpoof Songv, and Water Boy , a Negro work song of the South. Among the three songs rendered by Sandra Shaver, soprano soloist, was My Mother Bids Me Bind My Hairf, The girls, choir then sang, HHow Lovely is Thy Dwelling Placen, and '6Serenade,,, from The Student Prince. The program was brought to a resounding climax by the band playing the Barnum and Bailey Marchf, with the baton twirlers. ! Xll? Although the league record was two and six, the team was successful. This record is very impressive indeed when the fact that the team was our first organized team and that we played against well-established soccer teams. Also the losses in many of the cases were very close. Valuable experience was gained which will be very useful since most of the members will be eligible to play next year.
