Convocation Features Senator Spong Senator William B. Spong of Portsmouth, junior senator from Virginia, was guest speaker at the 114th opening h convocation of Averett College held on September 11. Dr. Conwell Anderson led the faculty members, attired in their traditional robes, to the stage. Urging everyone to cast a ballot in November, Spong concluded, Our system of government, while not per- fect, is an avenue for peaceful progress. It can serve us and serve us well. Following Spong's speech, a press conference was held for students and newsmen.
