Among those volumes there will be recognition of the days when G l's swamped the nation,s institutions of learn- ing and caused cloistered girls' colleges to echo to the thump of heavy masculine feet. Such was the case at Averett on September l7, l946. Some twenty-five veterans were registered then. So many men at Averett was a situation unparalleled in the history of the college. And by a like token, it was a condition decidedly unfamiliar for the men. In the opinion of the veterans, there was a decided lack of the sturdy manly values. A fraternity was the answer, and a fraternity there was! Gamma Phi Nu was organized in October, l946. Since then, it has sponsored several dinner-dances for members and their friends, conducted chapel programs, acquired a fraternity cottage, given a school dance, and made plans for future activities.
