Silver Jubilee Nineteen Fifty marks the twenty-fifth year of sports in Avella High. As years went by new sports were tried and then some were dropped. To us, the greatest sport is Football which has reigned throughout the twenty- five years. We have had Champion teams and Champion players. There have been teams also whose losses outnumbered their victories but nevertheless we have been proud of them. During the twenty-five years such sports as Soccer, Softball, Baseball, and a high honored sport of Basketball were among the top ranking sports of our school. Last but not least the team is not complete without a Cheering Squad. Whether the team is winning or losing the Cheerleaders are always cheering for the players. We feel that sports play an important part in School and Community Life, and for that reason we set aside part of the l951 IND-AVELU to honor the Twenty-fifth Anniversary of Sports in good old Avella High. Now to explain our pictures from pages 57 to 64. We shall start with the 1950-51 Cheerleaders. They are a symbol that indicates that cheering certainly can help a team to go on to victory. On page 58 We are very proud to have our first football team of 1925 and also the hard fighting team of 1926. The great team of 1931 with a write-up of the teams schedule appears on page 59. They certainly were great fighters. The year 1927 is well represented by both a Football and Baseball team. Athletics always played an important role in A. H. S. On pages 62 and 63 we have the football teams from 1945 to 1950. The Eagles of these years were courageous aggregations and their deeds and victories have brought honor to Avella High School. Last of all we reserve a word of praise for three of Avella High School's most illustrious sons-Mario Cabrielli, Mike Lucas, and Fred Mambu-former greats of Avella High School and Waynesburg College.
