Such sports-minded juniors on the football team as Toni Barnhart, Richard Bruckman. Hugh Ferguson, Harry MacGregor, Bob Nlarengo, Rich McDonald, George Schnell- bacher, XYayne Thomson, and Bill Toward showed their outstanding athletit' abilities. Un the hardwood lloor Hugh lferguson, Boh Long, Boh Marengo, and Bill Toward led the j.V.'s in a successful season. Enthusiastic cheerleaders, Lynne Vaddirk and Mary .Xnn Montgomery, never lacked in pep keeping up the school spirit. Strutting at foot- ball games and parades were Ruth McNeil, Kitty Burgert, and Ruth Simendinger, the three junior class majorettes. Not to be surpassed, the junior class boasts of two quartettes: the Nlellotones consisting of Alice Haley, Elizabeth Gormley, Sue Meadow- croft, and Betsy Badgerg and the junior Male Quartette including Hugh Ferguson, Dan Askey, Rich McDonald, and Bill VVhitelock. THERE'S A STAR - SPANGLED l'nder the guidance of Mrs. Gollmar, the Avalon Student Founcil led the school to another successful year. For the first time repre- sentatives were sent to the State Student Ciouncil Convention at XYest View. The council spon- sored the Homecoming Celebration. This was the third annual celebration, and was held on October 18, the night of the Neville game. Nancy Clarke, Homecoming Queen, and her attendants, janice Bahm and Eileen Koehl, reigned over the dance the following evening. Another activity was the planning ol' a complete assembly schedule for coming year. Through the co-operation of the furtis Publishing Vompany. the group was able to raise the necessary sum to defray the expenses of its many services and activities by means ol' a magazine campaign. All in all, the student body can be proud of the accomplishments of this year's council members. The officers were: .lohn Ciatchell, President: farl Spangler, Vice- President: Hank Betcher, Secretary of Finance and Treasurer: Richard Nlclionald, Secretary of .Xctivitiesq Alanice Bahm, Secretary of Assem- blies. The junior student council was again sponsored by Miss Irene Austen. Leading the group were Scott Harvey, President: Patricia Morris, Vice- President: Susan Thomas, Secretary: and Peggy Crehan, Treasurer. Several methods were used to create the poster-SD, ZD, colored paper, water color, chalk. and the silk screen methods made especially attractive and novel posters. Une was the very lovely silk screen poster for the Vhristmas lformal: while the other was the 3D poster for the animal Travalon bake sale. Everyone noticed the cake, made of plaster of paris, that was exhibited in the front hall. l-'or the junior class play, they made two hundred program covers and many posters de- picting the theme of the play. These posters were prepared by the silk screen method, which requires two screen, one of each color and a great deal of work. Flever posters were also devised to advertise dances and other school activities. Various signs were made for the teachers once a week. The members ol' the Poster Flub worked diligently alter school in the art room. VVhen they had extra assignments, they often eompleted their work at home. A talented group of students, chosen by Nliss Nleily, constituted the membership of this club.
