Hlstory of The Class of 57 On a cool crrsp September mornrng In l945 our class the class of 57 began our long lourney of educatron Arnvrng promptly at school excuted and happy we were asslgned to our classrooms Some were an Mrs Rrces room and some nn Mnss Anne Whntes Through the fnrst few years of grammar school ut seemed that the three Rs were second nn um portance for much of our tnme was spent In other actnvltaes such as playlng on the monkey bars playing on the coal pale lgolng home every afternoon fnlthy wnth soot and smutl pumping rope and playing follow the leader boon we were made to understand that school was a place where one came to study a llttle-that nt wasnt all play Thats when all the trouble started No wonder all the teachers had gray halrl Pat Powell sand she often wondered why they dad Tame passed by so qunckly I often wondered where nt went As l thunk back over my grammar school memories the day that stands out most IS the day we received our diplomas The class sang two songs Trees and The Lord s Prayer Long and boresome speeches were made By the end of the first speech all of us graduatmg students were restless and ready to go home Durmg the last speech l watched Fred Allen Gray pull Sandra Traudts plgtarls She was slttlng ln the row In front of hum and her plgtanls looked so tempting Fnnally the tame came when we walked across the stage as our names were called out to take proudly and shakuly our diplomas from the hands of Mr John R Enterung ACHS the following session as .lr ls the first week was full of bewrlderment and frustration Many new teachers and students we were to become acquarnted with The fnrst fave days were days of dread and horror Bull Quinn sand that he couldnt get used to changing classes every hour and get tang dosners on each snde of hum going full speed than to get unto that crowd Beth Ann Summervnlle sand she often wondered why the school dldnt put up stop lughts and put a yellow llne down the middle of the hall so no one could cross over Into the other lane where you may get trampled to death We soon became accustomed to all the hugh school functnons Now we have reached our last mnlestone rn our lourney We were now Sensors This year Patra Tlnsley was Miss Homecomnng and Malcolm Esco was her very proud escort Many other extra curricular actlvutnes went on Bobby Glass our star football player made All State We were very proud of htm Stull another memory that lnngers In my mmd IS the day we recelved our rrngs We were very thrnlled over thus event Reallzlng now as partung trme draws near that these school days have been the most wonderful and carefree days of our lives though we often com planned over our studnes and other dnsapporntments Now we awalt the most Important day of all the day when rn cap and gown we shall be awarded our duplomas To those that helped us make our school life a goy and also those who have helped us prepare for our lourney ahead l take thus time now on behalf of the Sensor Class to thank you all thank you very much By Jean Henson Class Hustorlan 26 ' 9 . . .
