AUSTIN HIGH SCIDOL ART DEPARTMENT Art work in the Austin Public School is supervised from the first to eighth year. In the high school two classes of one hour in length are held once every week. The art work in the grades is outlined and lesson plans are handed out to the teachers. These outlines are pre- pared to follow basic training in each grade. Because of this method the teachers may follow the plan and teach when the supervisor is not present. It is the job of the Art Supervisor to plan the lessons to see that they are carried out and teach and demonstrate when it seems neceesary The Art work in the Austin School is of very high quality There seems to be an unusual amount o' ability in the school One reason for the good quality of the work here ns due mostly to the fine spirit of cooperation and ability displayed by the teachers The type of work covered in the high school this year was block printing chalk landscape drawings water color drawings costume design and portraiture I am also glad to announce at this time that Betty Lerch won a year s subscription to 'AMERICAN ARTIST MAGAZINE This award was given to her for the best picture in ill ustrating a scene from a nursery rhyme or fairy tale Neil J Nelson Art Supervisor Potter County xv S fx N N f s X QT 5SW 2 S ,Ji ag, ' I ' I . . . - .
