CALENDAR It is not long after the holidays before Austin High is once again in a whirl of activity. This time it is the January Senior class and registration for the Spring term which cause the excitement. Caps and gowns are proudly carried down the halls, Seniors run around making last minute credit checks, and plans for the Sen- ior Assembly, Baccalaureate, the Senior Prom, and iinally graduation becomes a realization. The concentration on UKing Foot- ball turns to the joyful expectation of the Christmas holidays. The biggest festivity of the season is the traditional Beauty Dance sponsored by the ROUND UP Staff on the last day of school be- fore the awaited vacation. After sixteen days Hoff the grind, however, everyone is happy to see one another again, and school settles down to its usual pace. J G. F. A. C. club members and refugees from the Hound Up Staff decorate the Christmas tree in the main hall. One of the biggest presentations of the year is the Parent- Christmas carols echo down the hall, as members of the girls Teacher Association's Christmas program given by the Music chorus do their part in spreading the seas0n's spirit. Following this colorful activity is the decorous Military Ball, the pride and joy of the R.O.T.C. Department. The Junior Class then snatches the spot- light with a Masquerade junior Room. Spring is also the season when Austin High School's Baseball and Track teams get shaped-up and represent Austin well in District and State-wide competi- tion. Two of Austin's three Varsity Football co-captains made a resentation of a giant-sized Football? troph to Coach Red Harris at the end oty the many successful years as Head Football Coach at Austin.
