TLTQQT 8 Q SEPTEMBER School started with much that is new especially the Freshman who invaded our school, We all greeted our new Principal Mr, Keith Apple' by and his assistant Mr. Ray Kelso, The soc hop was the first social event. It was beneficial to all those who don't wear shoes. Our first pep rally showed that Austin has lots of spirit. The month ended with the band having an all out picnic. OCTOBER The greatest thing that happened in October was the mass migration of Austinites to the little town of Plainview. This month was also the time for the regular initiation into the National Honor Society. Curse You lack Dalton was the stage hit, and the talent show brought new stars into the limelight. On October 25 the school turned into a kinder- garten while all the high senior played games on Kid Day. The 30th was a lonely day for Austin as the mighty seniors spent the day at T. W. C. NOVEMBER November started with our first home game with Ysleta. After this game we were still friendly enough to invite them and the rest of the schools to the F.H.A. rally held here. On November 12 we started picking beauties. What hard work! The next evening our parents found out about us at the Open House, the night which is dreaded each year. Our football team scrouged Bowie and Iefferson. Thanksgiving came and we played E.P.H.S. Then we helped them celebrate at the victory dance held here. DECEMBER Come To My House held its world premier with the seniors show-- ing their acting ability, We took the faculty out of mothballs by helping them put on a volley game in as- sembly, Keith Appleby was chosen most valuable player. Our cagers started making points on the lOth. On the l5th the football team had their banquet. The Christmas assem- bly was a beautiful beginning for the holiday spirit which invaded Austin. The last day of school before vacation was given over to prepa- rations for the famous beauty dance sponsored by the Round Up Staff. lt turned into a home coming dance Welcoming Ex-Austinites home for the holidays. Five beauties were honored, . 'H 1 1 l FEBRUARY M After Ianuary Seniors were raduated, the spring Student Council was installed. The May Senior Class elected officers. Betty Iones was chosen Queen of Austin-in-Action. School went western as the rodeo came to town. Everyone was cowboy or cowgirl but no Indians. The Rifle Team was rated sixth in the nation. Austin's girl's tennis tearn defeated Duncan. A pep assembly honored the basketball and tennis teams. It was also an assembly to increase school spirit. Val Grant was chosen R.O.T.C. Queen, Dick Black made All-District Basketball. MARCH Austin-in-Action, the biggest affair of the year, was a success as Betty Iones ruled as queen. Cass prin- cesses escorted her. The Whites won over the Browns in spring practice climax. Austin's tootball team will strive to be undefeated next season, National Honor Society took in twenttgfive new members. Round-Up met its deadline. E.P. ,S. came to Austin for an ex- change assembly with lots of talent. The Student Council gave a coke party for new Austinites who have recently moved to El Paso. Last semester's Curse You Iack Dalton play, proceeds furnished the halls with a new refrigerated water cooler and the whole school was irateful Toastmasters Club for this fine addition to t e school. The Military Ball was attended by all cadets. The Freshmen and Sopho- mores got together and held a joint dance. l al s 2. APRIL April Fool's Day finds everyone in Austin fooling around reading their foolish Fooeys, Austin's foolis paper. April 15 sees the Seniors roaming the halls in rompers. It is Kiddie Day again and the cafeteria served warm formulas to all the Seniors, Twirp Sea- son came and most of the boys were running from the fgirls?l, It ended with the Twirp Dance and crowning of the King, the boy who had the most dates during the season. The Seniors had a fine va- cation from school on their long-awaited trip. The Morning Watch, an interdenominational religious meeting grew so large that it was moved from a class room to the Iunior Hi gym. MAY May came and brought everyone srnilin faces be- cause it's only one more month until scSl1ool's out. The Senior Prom was the last dance many a boy and girl will go to at Austin, It was a wonderful affair. Our R.O.T.C. Department sounded retreat aft- er school. A very nice ceremony for taking down the colors was attended by many. We had two Senior plays, one on the 14th the other on the 24th. The seniors had their Baccalaureate Service on the 25th, and were still satisfied from the Banquet on the 23rd, Then Seniors graduated and the lower classmen fi- nally got out of school, Have a nice vacation.
