These halls could give forth some interesting stories of those years. Thousands of students have passed in and out of Austin's doors, adding to her memories. In the composing and editing of Austin's 20th Anniversary Round-Up, the staff has had one main purpose-to edit a book which will in the future bring friends to mind, relive treas- ured experiences once again, and provide many hours of pleasant thoughts of school days gone by. FANNIE WORMAN MRS' EMMA HINKLE 'NQSQ November 7, 1949 To the Staff ot the Austin High School Annual: Since this year is the 20th anniversary of the students' annual publication of Austin High School, The Roundup , I am glad to have the opportunity of extending the congra- tulations of the El Paso school system as well as my own felicitations on this occasion. The custom of publishing high school annuals has many advantages and satistactions besides those which are evi- dent in the course of its preparation and at the moment each student receives his copy at the end of the year with a joyful expression. Recently, and many times previously, we in the central offices have had to hunt up old high school annuals of fifteen, twenty, or thirty years ago to obtain evidence on some point whose truth needed badly to be established. The annual would provide the evidence Where other records were missing or imperfect. Was So-and-so a student that year? What class was he in? Did Miss Blank teach in that year? What did she teach then? Etc. Annuals with their abundant pictures show us in black and white so much information about years long gone by that they should be treasured by all who receive them.
