Zimmerman 64,0 7512 We, duly authorized attorneys of the regular bar of Scott County Circuit Court have hereby, upon behalf of our client, the Class of 1946, of the School of Austin, State of Indiana, assembled you together on this solemn occasion to listen to the last will and testament of said Class, duly made out by us, legally signed and witnessed by said testator. We the Class of 1946, having come to our last hours, and being in full possession of our faculties, feel it incumbent upon us to say a few words to our heirs concerning the long years which we have passed together, more or less happily. Our life has been long and full of vicissitudes, yet we have often thought that the life which is full of what are known as Ups and Downs is the most enjoyable, because the con- trast between light and shade, prosperity and adversity, make a varied existence which is at- tractive to every human being. We have seen some lives that rolled on with such perfect peace- fulness and quiet, no startling upheavals, no changes of any kind, that it became wearisome just to behold them. We are arranging our worldly effects and consigning to our lawful and natural heirs all our worldly goods and chattels with all the appurtenances and hereditaments thereunto be- longing, to each one the peculiar property seeming best fitted to his or her needs. We further want to be distinctly understood that if any one of the beneficiaries of this will shall attempt to dispute or in any way change the items of this document, he or she, must be immediately cut off wholly and entirely from any and all of its provisions. To our Principal, we leave blessed peace, calm days and peaceful nights, undisturbed b the harrowing problems that we as a class presented him. To the teachers and trustees we bequeath all the patience, forbearance, long-suffering and self-sacrifice ever possessed by us, on principle that, To him that hath shall be given. To our other heirs, the Freshmen, we do will and bequeath the remainder of our most treasured possessions. To the juniors our well-known ability to talk back in self defense, and to make any act- ion we may see fit to commit, seem perfectly justifiable and proper, in fact the only thing to do. To the Sophomores,-who are soon to become juniors, we bequeath and devise all our stupidity and frailty for blundering at the simplest tasks, also all the beautiful ease with which We forget, set aside and banish forever the difficult ones. To the janitor, his heirs and assigns forever, we bequeath the inalienable and indis- soluble right of passing opinions upon the personal appearance of the teachers whether favor- able or otherwise. I, MARIE SATTERWHITE, will my ability to get along with Mr. Bridges to the Freshmen I, BARBAR FAWBUSH, will my ability to get a man to Penelope Brodus. The boys and girls had a contest to see who could sell the most. Of course the girls won. The boys still owe the girls that party. We made a profit of 374.00 which we think is very good. . At the present the Seniors are very busy getting out the yearbook. With the assistance of Mrs. Clark we are doing our best to make it a nice book. . Any junior will tell you he is a member of the best class in high school. There were thirty-seven of us who entered high school as poor green Freshmen and who spent the first week barging into the wrong rooms searching for our classes. In our Freshman year we lost Sarah Osman, Donna Salmon, Bruce Crisp, Charles Thompson, Kenneth Hamilton, Jackie Haskell, Morris Reynolds, and jackie Buzzard who left us at the end of the Freshman year. As Sophomores we had very little responsibility for school activities, al- though some of our girls got to wait on their upper classmen at the Iunior-Senior Banquet. We lost Rozella Claywell, Steven Gibson, Bertha Deaton, Nella Horn, Ioan Richey, Margaret Huckleberry, Martha McCarty, Thelma Lewis, Alfred L. Cathcart, Betty Beavers, and Linton Abner who moved away at the end of the year. We ended the year with a weiner roast at the scout cabin. The class passed into the Iunior year. Ahl The junior Year, one of the outstanding events was the junior Class play THE BARGAIN BRJDEH. At the present time we juniors are busy with plans for the junior-Senior Reception. K The junior Class of 1945-46 started the year largely waiting the arrival of their class rings. About two weeks after school had started we received them and displayed them proudly. We then waited the arrival of the time when we could start on our class play. Time seemed to pass very slowly, but after what seemed to be months we finally received our play books and got started on our rehearsals. The name of our play was The Bargain Bride. It was given the 5th of December The cast was as follows: IIMMY SMITH--Robert Christie: He is always sending in radio contest slogans DEXTER DORNER--Clyde Lewis Cwhom we borrowed from the senior classj Dexter is having girl trouble. We had a good crowd and received a profit of 3lO0.00. The first semester was just about over and we had just received the terri- ble news that no one would be exempted from any of the examinations Kas if any of us would anywayl. We got through them without too much injury to our intelligent minds. We started our second semester with the thoughts of our junior and Senior reception in mind. It wasn't long until we began to start working on it. The orch- estra we hired for our dinner and dance programs was Aaron Cox and his orch- estra from Seymour, Indiana. It is going to be formal on May 9, 1946. We are also selling boxes of personal stationery and we have received a prof it of 322.432 We are now busy on making our tickets for the show which we are sponsoring this month. The Eagles although finishing fourth in the conference standing, led in defensive average. The Conference teams played were held to an average of only Z8 points per game. The Eagle second team won 13 of 18 games, only one of their defeats was o- ver Z points. Although four regulars, Coons, DeWitt, Lewis and Perry will be lost by graduation from the first team this year, the performance oi the Freshmen and sophomores on the second team makes the basketball outlook at Austin promising for the next two or three years. Players with first team experience will be lacking early in the 1946-47 season but with the keen competition for regular places on the squad. it is felt that a very good team can be developed as the season progresses THE TRACK SQUAD BASEBALL AND TRACK T1-U-3 BASEBALL SQUAD Front row: Shields, Spry, Hounchell, Hall, Bowen, Trapp, Rigels, Back Row: Hubbard, Newberry, Dewitt, Lewis, Chilton. The reception was held May 25, 194-5 in the Austin High School Gym. We started the reception fwhich was formalj with a Welcome from Norma Gardner and followed by a Response from Mary Maggard. Then followed short talks by Mr. Glaze, Mr. Gamble, and Mr. Casey. Many invited guests for the formal dance after the dinner was served. The decorations were patriotic in color and design and the floor was surrounded by evergreen twigs. Many commented that it was the best decorations yet se en in the Austin Gym. The candles on the tables and an upturned hat from the ceiling provided the light. All reported having a good time. Fleas always know their children will go to the dogs. A farmer wanted to hire a hand to harvest his oats and told him he would have to get up at three in the morning. The hand asked: HA re they wild oats? The farmer said No , The hand said: 'gThen why do you have to sneak up to them in the middle of the night? . Why do women have no mustache? Answer: They talk all the roots out on the inside. A man was on a bridge fixing to jump into the river to drown himself and a po- liceman saw him and got to him before he jumped, and the man began to tell a hard luck story. His wife had died, he had gone bankrupt, his children were starving, and before he got through telling the policeman the rest of his hard luck, they both jumped into the river. A farmer with 27 children went to see a circus and asked the man at the side- show how much he would charge for his family to see the lion. The ticket sel- ler said: Are all these your children? Yes, replied the farmer. How much will you charge for me to bring the lion out to see your show? !J She knew her sweetheart was wearing an Easter tie because it had egg on it. A divorcee asked: Will there be any divorces granted in heaven? No, WHY? There will be no lawyers there to obtain them. One man said: A diamond wedding is when a couple have been married 75 years, a golden wedding is when they have been married 50 years and a silver wedding is when they have been married 25 years. His friend said: We had a wooden Wedding at my house last night. He replied: What is a wooden wed- ding? My daughter married a blockhead. The service station attendant gave the man free air and water, cleaned his wind- shield, checked his oil, and then the man asked the attendant to stick out his tongue so he could seal a letter he wanted to mail. A dairyman used a toothbrush on his cow's teeth and she gave dental cream. Two lrishmen sleeping together had their heads covered up to keep the mosquit- oes away. One peeped out and saw a lightning bug, and said, Pat, there's no use these mosquitoes are looking for us with a lantern. A man walking down the street had on a medal. A friend met him and said: What are you doing with that medal on? He replied: I am a hero, I saved a girl. How did you save a girl? Last night I had two girls and saved one of them for tonight.
