Five dclock comes early August mornings for the Red Jackets and Maroon B'amd members after weeks of sleeping late, but they willingly get up to prepare for the football season that lies ahead. Many hours are spent in practice for the halftime performances that last such a few minutes. Majorettes Kandy Menefee, Mary Davis, Margie Campbell, Diane Cottingham, and Jan Sorrell practice in an empty stadium during the summer months. Babs Becker rests before a The Maroon Band marched down Congress Avenue in the annual University of Texas Band Day. The band performance. band performed during half-time of the first UT home game.

AHS. starts off with a bang! Nervous sophomores and bewildered parents desperately try to find their way to Widely separated classrooms. The schedule is interrupted by Hurricane Carla and the students get a holiday because of high winds and torrents of rain; students volunteer to give the morning devotional before the classes begin for the day; pep rallies and week end games color the weekst activities. $4 Geotgann Evans, Nancy McCullough, and John Rowlett catch their breath during half-time after yelling vigor- ously for the Maroons during the first half of the Jones of Houston game. The Maroon must go to press even if Hurricane Carla did inter- rupt the school schedule.
