Filled with a variety of rhythmic pat- terns blended together to create a harmo- nious whole, school life is like a full sym- phony with all its forward driving power- its broad, generous strokes, its vague out- lines and subtle shadings. Its tempo is sometimes gaily lilting and buoyantly breezy, fast-moving, capricious, then suddenly a misapplied accent or a dynamic stress interrupts the Howing se- quence to create a slow and solemn move- ment. The Comet staff has tried to capture the tempo of life at Austin High School with its forward movement of merriment, sad- ness, joy, and accomplishment. All the things we have been this year have blended together to characterize the fun- damental rhythmic patterns of our sym- phonic year. We of the staff hope that you will re- spond to the steady pulse, the mounting intensity, the bursting force of familiar tempos as we have endeavored to recap- ture them in The 1959 Comet Stephen F.
