Ea' en 0414 .foacf Spring Activities brought the tempo of Austin High to a climax. The month of February was one of our busiest. The Valentine Formal was held February 14 in the gymnasium. Entertain- ment for the dance was provided by the Travel- ers, composed of Tommy Tiemann, joe Latting, and joe Hart. The main event of the evening was the crowning of the Valentine Sweetheart, Dina Eitelman. Carolyn Kylberg was crowned Miss Colden Gloves from Austin High Schoolv during the final bouts of the 1959 Colden Gloves Tournament at the city coliseum. Other Austin High juniors who were honored as Golden Girlsv of the 1959 regional Golden Gloves were Judy Hicks and Carl Ann Klaus. A Midsummer Night's Dreamy was the theme for the 1959 Maroon Beauty Revue. There were seventy-five girls nominated to represent the different advisories. Harry Blackstone, jr., well- known entertainer and magician, acted as master of ceremonies, as well one of the entertainers, for the show. The Stephen F. Austin choral groups presented their annual spring festival and opera April 7-8. This year's opera, C-allantryf was a take-off on a soap opera. Leading sin fers were udy johnson, Sandy Ewell, Ross Didkinson, an Ioe Greenhill. 1 'iff 5 -'J I CAROLYN KYLBERG is pictured as she looked when she was crowned Miss Golden Gloves from Austin High School as a part of the Austin Colden Gloves tournament activities.
