'fi 41,5 Ee .-W 0 L Qi I wa, as Q3-ries ,- YVINNINC FIRST PLACE in the religious division of Deck the Doors Contest was Mrs. Mary Gravis senior advisory, which donated the first prize of five dollars to the Salvation Army Shoe Fund. COLLECTING FOOD for their needy family at Christmas are seniors Sherry Gregory, Cally Cook, Jeannie Breeze, and Linda Logsdon, members of F. H. A. III. PORTRAYINC MARY and a Shepherd in the annual Christmas Festival are Alice Marshall and Jimmy XVood. 'Makin Sphifd Ba' ' Once again the Christmas spirit reigned supreme at Austin High as advisories, clubs, and other student organ- izations joined in to make Christmas '58 one of the mer- riest ever. The annual Deck the Hallsi' Contest was changed to 'KDeck the Doorsf, with many more advisories and clubs participating with the new change. There were two divi- sions for door decorations-religious and secular. Win- ning first place and five dollars in the religious division was the senior advisory of Mrs. Mary Cray, and first place in the secular division went to Mrs. Clara Ashley's advisory. The Christmas Music Festival and Pageant was pre- sented by the Choral, Speech, and Art Departments. Sing- ing in the festival were members of the Mixed Choir. the Bel Cantos, and the Maroon Chorale, under the direc- tion of Miss Virginia Decherd and Mrs. Carolyn Boyd. Members of the Speech Department staged and pre- sented the pageant, while the Art Department designed and made the outstanding sets. The jackets this year were 'F 3 grey with maroon stripes down the sides and j T maroon letters. The end of high school for thirty SFA seniors came on january 28. Graduating exercises for Stephen F. Austin High Schoolis mid-year gradu- ates as well as for those of McCallum and Travis high schools were held at McCallum High School. Price Daniel, Ir., and joAnna Murray were elected heads of the Student Council for the spring semester. Other candidates for these offices were as follows: Steve Harris and john Stayton for president, and Val jean Dudley and Linda Gilbert for vice-president. The year 1958 was the last year for 12A senior exemptions. The seniors that had a ninety or above average enjoyed the privilege of senior exemptions. Many seniors, however, as well as sophomores and juniors, had many hours of studying. MID-TERM GRADUATE Mike London smiles happily as he waits for his high school diploma.
