Judy Baggett Janice Billings Vicki Blankenship Betty Brown Cay Burton Betty Cunningham Foreword Spirit is mysterious. It is a ghost or fire, an angel or a demon, energy or life. But most of all, spirit has been synonymous with Stephen F. Austin High this year of 1956-1957. Spirit is a fleeting thing that comes, goes, and can be found almost anywhere. At SFA it has been present at dances, academic contests, athletic events, and even in classrooms. This spirit was felt in the quieter, as well as the lighter, moments. Through the medium of pictures and the written word, the Comet of 1957 has sought to capture SPIRIT in its many, temperamental moods. Rising with one accord to the strains of Loyal F orever, the Red Jackets displayed spirit at its height, as they formed the tra- ditional block Led by its drum major, the Maroon Band, ever adding its enthusiastic efforts, marched on the Held. Filled with a spirit of glowing pride, the student body gathered together as one around the flaming bonfire before the traditional home- coming game. Because of this unequaled spirit, SFA was honored with the Sportsmanship Trophy, which was given for the first time to the outstanding Austin high school for its commendable participa- tion in school sports.
