THE LOOK OF CHRISTMAS is pictured as the creator of Austin High's Christmas window, Carole Keeton, puts the finishing touches on herl work. When Christmas comes to AHS, we all feel the spirit in the air. The halls and rooms of our school brighten with the decora- tions we make as advisories vie in the annual Deck the Halls contest. As we go to parties and have fun during this most festive of seasons, we don't forget the less fortunate citizens of Austin. Many families had a nicer Christmas because Austin High stu- dents remembered and provided them with a Christmas dinner. The spirit of Christmas giving was probably best exemplified by Mrs. Clara Weisser's advisory. This group of junior students provided one of Austinis most unfortunate families with a large part of the items they needed for comfortable living, including a stove, mattresses, and clothing. At the front of our building, hi h up for all who passed by to see, was a Christmas scene simugating a stained glass window. This lovely work of art was designed and executed by Carole Keeton. The window showed Mary receiving homage from the Magi. DECK THE HALLS WITH -well, all sorts of things, angels for instance, as the Latin Club did. Or, paint fy, the blackboards with a Christmas mural like that below ' from Mrs. Jane Conley's advisory. We 70644

The annual Homecoming Bonfire brought an unprecedented surge of spirit as the classes vied with each other to gather the most wood. As the main event in Take-O-XVaco XVeek it had everyone working in behalf of his class. The juniors won the bonfire contest and their president, Cary Craig, lit the blaze. He was assisted in the lighting by the foot- ball team tri-captains-Charles Weiss, john Fainter, and Mike Cotten. Friday night after the Austin-Waco clash graduates of Austin High were honored at the Homecoming dance. Entertainment at the dance was provided by ex-students. 1956 graduates Colleen O'Connor and Connie Moifit sang, as did their ex-class- mate Don johnson. Another 1956 grad who was on the program was Kerry O,Quinn, who did a humorous monologue. Roy Lyons, a 1955 graduate, sang accompanying himself on his guitar. VK E SING AN OLD SONG FOR YOU -Colleen,O'Con- nor and Connie Moflit Cleftl and Roy Lyons fbelowl entertain at the Homecoming dance.

THERE'S CHRISTMAS IN THE AIR say the happy faces of Red jacket President Sharon johnson and her date, Bob johnson frightl at the Red jacket Christmas Formal. Raymond Tate, Ka Kocurek, Pat Devine, and Amor Forwood fbelowl looi ready to dance all night as they enter the door. THE STORY OF MUSIC is related by Fran Morgan, Gay Stolley, and Carolyn Calvert as they rehearse for their part on the floorshow of the Red Jacket Formal. The very biggest event of the fall semester was, as always, the Red jacket Christmas Formal. Under the leadership of their vice-president, Ioyce Eitelman, the Red Iackets turned the gym into a wonderful blue, white, and gold ballroom. Planning for the dance was done by a commit- tee composed of Virginia Walker, Pat Rusch, Shirley Myers, and Sally Anderson. The floor show presented a variety of talents. Songs were provided by the Flo-Tones: Ioyce YVebb, Martha Farmer, Patsy Davis, and Eva Maxey. Carolyn Calvert, Fran Morgan and Cay Stolley sang a medley tracing the growth of the blues. The hit of the evening was young Butch VVier, a jim dandyv little boy, who drummed his way into our hearts. As we all sang YVhite Christmas together and danced the night away, we all knew that this was one of the big memories we would always take with us. iff ff
