The annual Homecoming Bonfire brought an unprecedented surge of spirit as the classes vied with each other to gather the most wood. As the main event in Take-O-XVaco XVeek it had everyone working in behalf of his class. The juniors won the bonfire contest and their president, Cary Craig, lit the blaze. He was assisted in the lighting by the foot- ball team tri-captains-Charles Weiss, john Fainter, and Mike Cotten. Friday night after the Austin-Waco clash graduates of Austin High were honored at the Homecoming dance. Entertainment at the dance was provided by ex-students. 1956 graduates Colleen O'Connor and Connie Moifit sang, as did their ex-class- mate Don johnson. Another 1956 grad who was on the program was Kerry O,Quinn, who did a humorous monologue. Roy Lyons, a 1955 graduate, sang accompanying himself on his guitar.
