AUSTIN HIGH SCHOOL Or-'Fics or THE PRINCIPAL 1202 R10 GRANDE STREET AUSTIN. TEXAS To The Students: As we approach the end of the year, we realis- tically look back with pride to our high school with its great variety of interests, activities, and oppor- tunities that have been made available. It is a school in democratic living with unlimited opportunities to excel. To each graduate, I sincerely hope that your years in Austin High School have prepared you to think more clearly, to give of yourself more freely and untiringly, and to act more wisely. To each underclassman, I challenge you to contribute your best to our three high schools to make them the ul- timate in all that an educational institution ought to be. Much recognition has come to our school this year through many outstanding achievements.Stu- dents have acquitted themselves well in all en- deavors. My best wishes and congratulations go to the seniors as you receive your diplomas from Austin High School, and may each of you face the future as leaders with courage and vision true to your principles and ideals. 71 N.H. Wittner, P rincipal

---7 -- -if - - -Y-Y-71----Y---- -- Om? From eight in the morning till mid-afternoon the chairs outside the office of Mr. N. H. Wittner, principal, are filled with students and teachers whose problems only he can solve. Such demands require the efficiency of a machine and the patience and tact of an angel. Mr. Wittner has both. The originator of the Awards Assembly which is held each spring, Mr. Wittner is one who likes to see individual achievement recognized. Next year Mr. Wittner carries his M.A. degree from the University of Texas and his years of administrative experience to the principal's office of the new A. N. McCallum High School. McCollum will be a new experience for Mr. Wittner, especially since his entire career in education has been in Austin High. He did his practice teaching here, taught physics and math here after graduating from the University, and moved up into the administrative offices, becoming principal in l950.

Fraley, Dean of Boys, and Miss Martha Agnor, Dean of Girls, hold important positions in our school admin- istration. Their understanding personalities aid them in coping with any student problem which might arise. We shall always remember the way in which they dealt with our problems. 7 . . 2 'Q S Om Wise-p ' ' Mr. Lipscomb Anderson, Austin High's ever-busy vice-principal, gets together with his little black book and his big white wall chart to schedule Austin High assembly programs and Friday club meetings. lf you want a door unlocked or your locker broken open, Mr. Anderson turns the job over to one of the custodians under his charge. Next year his duties will be somewhat different, as he will become principal of Austin High-a job to which he brings over twenty years of ex- perience in education and an M.S. degree from Texas A 81 M. Mr. Anderson's duties as vice- principal are the management of the seven build- ings which make up Austin High School, schedul- ing and registration in all Friday clubs, all registration in school, reservations for the audi- torium and all other rooms used for meetings, the calendar and activity program, and the arrangements for buses and chaperons for those field trips and out-of-town football games,' con- ventions, and contests. egiatrzm Mrs. Edith Penland, our registrar, knows the answer to al- most any question especially if it has something to do with scholastic requirements and credits.
