1. Mrs. Wilson . . . that pert, ever-smiling lady used every method . . . books, blackboard, illustrations, and clear-cut explanations . . . to teach us the functions of a confusing hyperbole. 2. Mrs. Vaughn . . . with her sweet understanding and clear and lots of talking she left the tree of grammar implanted firmly on our minds. 3. Miss Sheckles . . . a newcomer to Austin Hi . . . lived up to her friendly, helpful smile in every way . . . as interested in our pleasures and problems as her biological specimens and charts. 4. Mr. Starnator . . . a spirit of informality prevailed in our classes of auto-mechanics with that personal friend as our teacher . . . his vocation was his avocation because he built midget cars in his spare time. 5. . . I never fully realized either, that hard was the lot of teachers. A hardly tolerable economic status combined with other trying situations to make their lives difficult. They were severely criticized for many little things that in other people would have passed by unmen- tioned . . l. Mr. Lambert . . - rule-enforcing coach who lived football . . . his Maroon teams thought the best of him even though they really felt each afternoon's work-out. 2. Mrs. Boon . . . beautiful brown, friendly eyes, soft grey hair welcomed us to the sanctuary of gruesome skeletons and embalmed frog legs . . . 'Now, if you urchins will get quiet' . . . and so continued another interesting period of microscopic study of protozoa. 3. Mrs. Massie . . . sailed through the library strew- ing green cards in her wake to troublesome students . . . this dignified lady readily helped us choose the road to the storied classics. 4. Miss Culley . . . 'If I've told you this before stop me,' was the introduction to an up-to-date joke illus- trating ancient history . . . cartoons and sports pictures cluttered up the bulletin board, but made it more inter- esting. 5. Miss Dickard . . . her love for math and people made each hour seem only a few minutes . . . her way of teaching math accomplished the impossible . . . making even us enthusiastic about math, too. Mrs. Weisser . . . kept us in stitches while we gasped for a breath of fresh air . . . often heard - 'Are there any questions-foolish or otherwise?' . . . with sighs and sarcasm she tried hard to beat Chemistry in 'you little kids' heads. 2. Miss Bagley . . . 'A chip on the shoulder indicates a block of wood above' . . . in place of wood she had pretty auburn curls and mathematical brains . . . neat as a pin from head to foot. 3. Miss Farley . . . 'Do you have conscientious scruples against using correct grammar? . . . oft-heard phrase in room A3 . . . a fanatic in the field of delinioscopy . . . brought interest to her class on a plate of glass - slides, that is. 4. Mrs. Bushnell . . . although restrained and frank, she was always willing to help a wayward and forlorn student . . . spent spare time chatting with the veterans and trying to make her ivory plants grow. 5. Miss Casey . . . 'Chewest thou gum in the sacred precincts of A19?, resounded through the sawdust of that eager English student as he was caught chewing the for- bidden fmit in Miss Casey's Garden of Edenf'
