To keep emotionally stable and men- tally fit, to re-establish bankrupt and disrupted homes, and to set up individual economical balance are some of the problems that must be met. To it will fall the task of renewing and strengthening commercial institu- tions--the trade and industry that have been halted by the war. The industrial department of Austin High School, the first in the state of Texas, has long realized the importance of mechan- ical skill, which adds agility to the mind and deftness to the hands. lt is helping to train future citizens for the tasks of recon- struction. DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION The unsettling impact of War upon youth creates problems for which recreation is one of the sanest remedies. There are the youth at work, and the youth on the thresholds of Work, restive under the pinching influences of War. Both groups are in need of Wholesome outlets of play, sports, and fun. Recreation is creative and, therefore, assumes greater impor- tance When so much of destruction is at Work. Physical education has taken on new meaning, fresh content, stronger emphasis.
