CLASS PROPHECY If is the year 1959, and a beautiful evening ln October Everywhere ln the town of Austin, Nevada huge posters r adluv ?O'd Home Week N Many days ago, invltations were ent lo all former resldents urging them to attend and 1 CSSLVS particularly thls evenlng when a wonderful ent C ta xment s to be given All the talent for thls program s t wctly home talent Every performer was at one tlme a School Th hour for the great event has arrived Every seat an the vast new audltorlum is fllled, and all are eagerly 8W8itlHg the performance ln whlch many dellghtful surprlses have been proml ed The platform is a mass of beautiful flowers ard autumn leates and the walls are hung wlth gar lands of vine and laurel It is truly a festlve occaslon Seated 1n the audlence are many celebrltles As I look about me I see a number of my old classmates There i Allen Horton our klnd hearted friend, who became a very wealthy man through wlse lnvestments, and lS now a noted philanthropist His money is paylng for much of the Old Home Veek expendltures The ladles ln the front seats are all so stylishly and becomingly dressed that they arouse my curioslty I am told that thelr beautiful garments come from the very select, not to say expenszve shop of Allce Hughes, who deslgns gowns for all the best dressed women in the country She is here herself and looks Wthe class of fHShlOH and the mold of form W Seated near her 1S Valter Dory, a real estate dealer who owns so much property that he has to keep a card index of it ln order to know it hlmself He has given the use of the auditorlum and the spacious park, both of chich belong to him Standing in the door, looking for old friends, I find Frank Bertrand, editor of the largest daily paper in the state and very active politically. round of applause greets the woman Just tak ng a seat by the window. She looks famlliar and yet not qulte f8m1718P enough can't tell who she is Ah, she waves her hands around talklng evcltedly, now, I know who she 's' Virgiria Malloy And what do you suppose she is ? Remember how she used o love astronomy and meteorology and all that stuff? She's L ned her knowledg to good acount and o she is the w ether man Yes, lndeed Tt was she who furnished the splen 1 w ather for the Old Home Week, and that is why she was so lldly applauded Ann now the entertalnment is to begin There is a hushed xpcctancy The llghts in the audltorlmm fade and the footllghts flash on. Participants in the entertainment are the l9b9 graduates of Austin High School darkened stage 1n the spotllght appeals a dalnty flgure, kis lng her hand to the audlence as an attendant arranges a wire across the stage, My goodness It's Evelyn Tonkin, who always sald she would be a dancer in a clrcus. She has CGTCPlQ y kept her work, for she gives us a wonderful per formance People say sh is the most clever wlr dancer in the world What a salary she must get' Next comes a big surprise Miss Glorianna DeLorme, the famous movle actress and lt is our old frlend, B Beverly Myles, very much charged She stlll has golden hair and is better looking than ever, but she seems to have acquired a foreign accent Now she's dropped the accent and is talking as she us d to talk She's telling all about Hollywood and how she became famous. She asks E we remember the imitatlons she used to do in study hour when the teacher was ca led out of the room. And we all remember And now put upon the platform strolls John Malloy, with a little book in hls hand He needs no introductlon from anyone, for we all recognlze him at once John Malloy, the author of those delightful short stories. He reads us two of them and then glves a charmlng little talk, telllng how his frlends 1n the old home town lnsplred many of his best sellers. Then last of all,looking stunning lr an elaborate even ing gown, comes Josephine Charley, She lS a wrlter of plays and has two successful ones runnlng on Broadway now.
