4 Foreword This 1957 Austinian is a pictorial scrapbook of the past year's moments of happiness and sadness, victory and defeat. A year in which the freshmen became acquainted with high school ways, the sophomores learned to drive, the juniors could extend the lO:3O curfew until l2:OO, and the seniors graduated to a new way of life in the adult world. On the following pages of this book are the events that made this year of '57 one to be remembered. At the start of the school year, we returned to brightened class- rooms, made new acquaintances and renewed old ones, and eventually settled down to the routine of school life. The football season brought the fall mixers, dates, and Homecoming festivities. Soon we welcomed the blanket of snow that made everything clean and white, and next came two glorious weeks of Christmas vacation. Following vacation we returned to complete vocational and research themes, to produce the all-school musical, and to cheer the basketball team to victory. Suddenly seniors came to the realization that graduation was drawing near, and they must make a final decision about their futures-college, work, or service. Then came spring lifting the third quarter slump. The year was almost at a close-only Skip Day, Prom, and Graduation remained. Our enthusiasm and enjoyment of these special events were faintly over- shadowed with a tinge of regret. For, as we marked each one, we realized we were approaching the end of another memorable year at Austin High School. Cfk-ajgwvs. fu?
